FHLC Corporate Buzz

November Edition

A Message from Our CEO

Dear FHLC Team,

I hope this message finds each of you doing well as the holiday season begins. We are a short three weeks away from Thanksgiving, a time when many reflect on gratitude and thankfulness. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on and express gratitude for the vital role that FHLC, through each of you, plays in the lives of those who rely on us for care. You are all essential parts of the FHLC team and it's your dedication that makes our realizing mission possible. Community Health Centers like ours are the heart of accessible and affordable healthcare, and you are what makes that possible.

Our commitment to providing comprehensive primary care services to all members of our community, regardless of background, income, insurance status or ability to pay, is a testament to the dedication of this team. Your hard work ensures that everyone has the opportunity to access care and improve their health and well-being. In a world where vast health disparities persist, the importance of Community Health Centers like ours cannot be overstated. I am proud and grateful to work alongside you as part of the solution, breaking down barriers to healthcare access and working to improve the overall well-being of our community.

While our dedication to our mission remains strong, we understand that the healthcare landscape is ever-evolving and changing. We continually strive to adapt to those changes and the needs of our patients. Your contributions, innovation, and resilience in providing excellent care are what make this possible. Thank you for being a vital part of the health center movement and for recognizing the crucial role that FHLC and all Community Health Centers play in promoting health and well-being for all. Together, we are making a difference and creating the opportunity for achieving our vision of healthy individuals, strong families, and vibrant communities.

Kind Regards,

Laura Waldvogel

During the month of November let's work together to promote understanding, support, and education about diabetes, a chronic condition affecting adults and children worldwide.

Meet Jenelle Hackbarth, Dental Assistant Supervisor!

I have been with FHLC since November of 2021. I am currently a DA with Dr. Bimarthi. I am from a small town near Beaver Dam, called Juneau. I just moved there with my newly married husband is May 2023, Karson, we have been together almost 5 years. We have almost been living there for one year, although I grew up there.

In my spare time, I like to hang out with my friends/family. I also love to spend time with my 5-month-old puppy, Karma. In the spring and summer time, my husband and I like to go fishing. Soon we want to go to Door County or Alaska for more fishing adventures. Fun fact, when I was younger, I drag raced in the summertime with my family.

Day of the Dead, a two day celebration - November 1st and 2nd, where it is believed that the passageway between the real world and the spirit world is open so our deceased loved ones can come back to visit us.

In Mexico culture, death is celebrated with colorful celebrations with noise, people having fun and food. Family members prepare for several weeks in advance for the tradition by creating altars, decorating burial sites, and cooking specific Day of the Dead food.

Don't mistake Day of the Dead for Halloween, they are two very distinct holidays.

It is said that on November 1st, the children who have passed come back to visit and celebrate as angelitos (little angles) and on the following day, November 2nd, it’s the adults (Difuntos) turn to show up for the festivities.

Day of the Dead is when families can eat and drink with their loved ones that are no longer with them. What a great way to commemorate the people we love and miss.

Welcome Glenn Flatoff, Facilities Manager in Wautoma!

Welcome Jessica Farrell, Psychiatrist in Beaver Dam!

Welcome Edward Hoffmann, Locum Dentist in Mauston!

Today and every day, let's spread a little more kindness to make the world a brighter and more compassionate place.

Marketplace Open Enrollment - November 1st to January 15th

Open Enrollment is an important time of year for individuals to freely select, enroll, update or renew their healthcare coverage on the Market place. Our very own Patient Service Navigators are Certified Application Counselors for the state of WI and are ready to assist individuals in navigating through the health plan coverage selection. Their assistance is free of charge for everyone in the community and appointments are available by phone or in person.

FHLC Staff TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

We're excited to introduce you to a valuable tool called AIDET Audits, designed to improve our communication and enhance the patient experience. As you know, AIDET is an acronym that stands for Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You. This simple framework is a powerful way to ensure we provide exceptional care and service to our patients.

Here's a brief overview of each component:

Acknowledge: Always greet patients and colleagues with a warm and friendly welcome. Make eye contact, smile, and offer a respectful greeting to acknowledge their presence.

Introduce: Clearly introduce yourself, your role, and the purpose of your visit. Patients appreciate knowing who they are interacting with and why. New employees want to get to know their colleagues. You play a critical role in that.

Duration: Keep patients and colleagues informed about how long procedures or wait times may be. Managing their expectations helps reduce anxiety and frustration.

Explanation: Explain things in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. Ensure colleagues and patients know what to expect and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Thank You: After the interaction, express gratitude for colleagues' and patients' time and cooperation. This small gesture goes a long way in making everyone feel valued and respected.

AIDET Audits involve regularly assessing how well we implement these principles in our daily interactions with patients. These audits help us identify areas for improvement and recognize areas of strength in our patient communication. Each FHLC staff member will be audited in alignment with the roles they play, for compliance with AIDET in their daily work with patients, colleagues and other stakeholders.

By consistently applying AIDET, we can create a more positive and satisfying experience for our patients and each other, fostering trust and confidence. Your commitment to AIDET contributes positively to our mission of providing high quality integrated health care and promoting the well-being of our patients, staff and communities. Your dedication to our ongoing efforts to enhance communication improves the FHLC patient and employee experience. If you want to know more about what AIDET Audits mean for you and your department, reach out to your leader.
