AUGUST 2024

FHR Symposium: Salt Marsh Science in Action

~ Recap & Gratitude ~

Thank you presenters, participants, and sponsors!

  • The 2-hour program provided clear, accessible information on the importance of healthy salt marshes for ecosystems, wildlife, and the climate.
  • Presenters discussed restoration strategies, species in the Herring River Estuary, and early data on natural shifts, all prior to changes from the Herring River Restoration Project (HRRP).
  • The premiere of the HRRP film "What's to Come" was well received, clarifying the rationale, efforts, and expected outcomes.
  • Over 90 attendees, including local property owners, scientists, nonprofit representatives, conservation trusts, and research institutions, participated.
  • Thoughtful questions and valuable connections were made throughout the program.

Due to the dynamic topics, including some draft data/findings, presenters asked that slides and recordings not be posted afterwards - thanks for understanding.

Herring River Restoration Project

  • At FHR we are getting some questions about the HRRP construction efforts and the timelines for the next project elements...
  • We suggest going to Chequessett Neck Road to see that bridge/water control structure work, actively underway.
  • As the project team schedules and prepares meetings with project updates for the fall, FHR will share meeting information. photos: Wes Stinson, Owners' Project Representative
