FHSD celebrated Veterans in a big way!
|
Schools in the Francis Howell School District held Veterans Day celebrations to salute those currently serving or who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Many of our schools invited veterans to their special activities scheduled in honor of the holiday. Veterans were treated to meals, student performances and slide shows honoring past and present members of the military, along with special guest speakers. Have you ever wondered about your child's worries and anxieties?
After a two-year Covid-related hiatus, the FHSD Family Learning Series is coming back! The first event will be held Tuesday, December 6 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Westwood Trail Academy (810 Westwood Industrial Park Dr, Weldon Spring, MO 63304). Professional Therapist Amy Maus will talk about youth anxiety and strategies that parents and educators can use to help.
Attendees will learn answers to these questions and more:
-
What anxieties are normal childhood/youth issues, and when do they require professional help?
- Why are so many young people showing signs of anxiety these days?
- What can parents – and teachers – do to help a student who often seems worried, is shy, shows perfectionism, or has symptoms of panic?

FHSD Board of Education Approves Raises for Support Staff
At the October 20 Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously approved pay raises for support staff, including custodians, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, administrative assistances, maintenance and grounds, nurses and other support staff roles across the District.
In September, FHESPA and members of the leadership team met to problem-solve the significant staffing shortages plaguing the District. It became clear that the District must offer competitive wages to recruit and retain the high-quality, dedicated staff we desire.
All support staff received an increase of at least $1.00 per hour or the equivalent salary increase of $1.00 per hour, effective November 1, 2022.
AP Scholars with Distinction
Every fall, the Advanced Placement Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams. Nationwide, only about 10% of students earn the distinction of AP Scholar or higher by the time they graduate – and to earn the top-level award is an even greater feat. A total of 258 Francis Howell students were named AP Scholars for the 2021-22 school year - 84 of those at the highest level, AP Scholar with Distinction.
