FI Members: In-Person Rally In Albany Tomorrow To Stop Single Statewide FI In Budget Deal!!

For those who can not rally, do not let up on calls to Legislators!

Budget negotiators have worked over the weekend to try to close a final state budget deal. As part of this package, word is that budget negotiators at the highest levels are “inking” a home care deal that would place CDPAP under a single statewide FI contracted to DOH. On Thursday, April 11, HCA and a host of associations and organizations sent a strong letter of appeal to the Governor, Senate Majority Leader and Assembly Speaker opposing and urging rejection of a statewide FI, and the safeguarding CDPAP services and CDPAP FIs. Now, with the finalization of budget bills imminent, and with the budget already 14 days late, and the Legislature moving as soon as possible to print and pass final bills this week, it is absolutely imperative that everyone join in making the case to legislators to safeguard the system and oppose movement to a single statewide FI in this final budget!

An in-person rally is being held tomorrow (Monday, April 15) in Albany with HCA joining with HCP, CDPANYS and others, for representatives from any FIs and supporting organizations who can attend.

Please plan to arrive by 11am; finding parking may take longer than usual. Participants will meet on the Concourse of the Empire State Plaza in front of a location called “Herbie’s Burgers.”

Directions are available here. Consider downloading the Park Albany app for cashless metered on-street parking. Please contact Alex Fitz, chief of external and strategic affairs, if you plan to attend.

Not available? Please continue to contact your representatives, including Governor Hochul’s office, with resounding appeals to tell them how harmful any of this would be to consumers and long-established agencies across the state!

Further Background for You:

As we have reported, the NYS Budget remains unresolved. Following an multiple extenders, the Governor and the Legislature will now try to finalize the Budget before the Passover holiday.

HCA has advocated for you in all of our meetings with the Legislature. With so much still unresolved, and the Executive pushing very hard for draconian cuts and reforms, we urge you to contact your representatives and tell them to reject these proposals that would be disastrous for CDPAP and consumers across New York State!
