518 Film Network : Connecting the Dots for the Regional Film Producers
I originally met some of the members who later would form 518 Film through ACE! events and socially in downtown Troy New York. They registered strongly on my radar as an organizational force to be reckoned with last year when ACE! partnered up to amplify 'The Monkey Short Film Fundraising Gala' in Albany New York. A collection of dedicated career film folks at a variety of levels in the film making ecosystem, 518 Film continues to be a part of a vibrant production feed that is increasingly making waves in the region and far beyond (in addition to throwing some great parties!). I caught up with Co-Founder and Community Engagement Director Michelle Polacinski to hear more about their vision and the big structural and programmatic expansion plans they have for the near future.

AND Casting : Lining Up Extras for Commercial and Film Based Projects
A hard working and industrious professional who seemingly makes extras appear out of thin air, Annie's company AND Casting is the go to for background casting for feature films and commercials in the Upstate New York region. I first met her when I was producing regional fashion shows in Saratoga with one of my side projects Electric City Couture. Her ability to materialize the correct number of models on site was borderline magical...all while keeping a smile on her face and a laser focus on maintaining order. ( 120 runway slots for our last large show) Recently, Annie got me up to speed on her latest projects and the continued growth and opportunity she is seeing for a broad variety of folks in the regional television and film industry.

INSIDE ACE! | CREATING A NEW PATH
Excited this month to focus on some of the great things going on in our regional film industry scene in advance of our first in person networking event of the year at Saratoga Arts. The founders of 518 Film Network have been strong supporters of ACE! for years, to see Micah and Michelle step up into community leadership positions feels right on track, and boy do they have their fingers on the pulse! Next up Annie Delano of AND Casting, who I have worked with for years in fashion related endeavors, gets us up to date on her growing casting business. Film has always been a focus of ACE! since some of the very first charrettes and strategy meetings about where regional creative economy focus should be many years ago. Living in Troy, its easy to imagine a vibrant film based ecosystem, being located on ground zero of ' city as a living set' with films such as Shop Lifters of the World and of course the mighty Gilded Age ( HBO) camping for weeks right outside my door.
As I eluded to in my year end summary (December Newsletter), I have been getting a lot of interest on the academia side lately regarding presentations and joint programs including the likes of Union College, Russell Sage College and the NYS Art Teachers Assoc. Additionally, I am finding more and more arts organizations moving into the educational programming space as well with conversations the last few months including Hudson Hall, Saratoga Opera and the NYS Museum Association. I have been floating the idea of a meetup that crosses over these segments. If you have an interest in being a part of this conversation please drop me a note and I will put you on that list for what will likely be a smaller, more targeted networking event in the second quarter.
Another cool ticket giveaway, for the astronomically inclined music loving folk! Make sure to check out the latest program by Musicians of Ma'alwyck and RSVP those FREE tickets! It's going to be a good one...
Finally, congratulations on the new gig to Anthony V. Hayes who will be taking over the helm at WMHT from Robert Altman. Robert was always present not only as a core founding member of ACE! but supportive of me professionally as an individual. Much luck to you Robert in your new endeavors.
