Mortgage professionals should be aware of FINTRAC’s new self-assessment questionnaire to help them determine the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act associated Regulations that apply to them. Mortgage professionals had not previously been subject to this Act, but they will be as of October 11, 2024.
Mortgage administrators, mortgage brokerages and mortgage lenders that perform at least one of the services or activities defined by the Regulations are subject to the Act and Regulations.
The mandate of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) is to facilitate the detection, prevention and deterrence of money laundering and the financing of terrorist activities, while ensuring the protection of personal information under its control.
To learn more about the questionnaire or to determine your obligations under the Act, visit the FINTRAC Self-Assessment Tool for the Mortgage Sector.
For questions, contact FINTRAC at 1-866-346-8722 or guidelines-lignesdirectrices@fintrac-canafe.gc.ca.
