The Nez Perce County Board of Commissioners declared a local emergency and temporary prohibition of the discharge of fireworks within the physical boundaries of the county. The City of Lewiston is experiencing the same severe fire threat due to the current drought and extreme heat.
Furthermore, pursuant to Lewiston City Code Section 15-1(5)(a) the prevention of fires, Chief Myklebust has enacted a ban on all recreational fires in the City of Lewiston due to the severe fire threat.
"The safety of our citizens and first responders, and the protection of property are my major concerns right now," Chief Myklebust said. "We are experiencing very hot and dry conditions that create the opportunity for devastating fires, and it is extremely important that we do everything we can to safeguard our community."
These bans will remain in effect until lifted by the fire chief.
