National White Wine Day
Friday, August 4th
A Brief History...
Did you know that the earliest archeological evidence of white wine is traced back to modern-day Iran, around 3500 B.C.? Next, white wine popularized in Greece around 460 B.C. The Romans carried on the tradition, and spread the style with their army into new lands, such as Italy. The Middle Ages saw decreased popularity of white wines, outside of religious ceremonies. The Crusades, along with innovative storage solutions, brought sweet white wines into vogue throughout Western Europe. Throughout the 16th century, white grape varietals were brought to the Americas, and distribution of wines grew throughout the world.
Today, you can enjoy white wines produced all over the globe, young and old, dry or sweet. Fruity, floral, herbaceous — there's a white wine for you, and we're here to help you find it. Celebrate National White Wine Day with something new and exciting, something historic, or maybe your tried-and-true favorite. Temperatures should be nice and hot tomorrow, so enjoy your chilled white wine in some shade, preferably on a boat or patio!
Cocktail of the Week: Black Walnut Rum Old Fashioned
Let's go nuts! Since August 3rd is National Grab Some Nuts Day, I thought I would make my favorite nutty cocktail. It uses Nux Alpina Black Walnut Liqueur which is a very versatile liqueur with a very clean natural black walnut flavor. I like using aged rum for the drink so I will be using Plantation 5yr Barbados rum.
INGREDIENTS
1.5oz Plantation 5 yr
.5oz Nux Alpina Black Walnut Liqueur
.25oz Traverse City Cane Simple Syrup
1dash Bittercube Blackstrap Bitters

INSTRUCTIONS
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass, add ice, stir, and strain into a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with an orange peel.
Now get out there and grab some nuts!
Cheers,
Nikola

Tuesday, August 8th
7 p.m. - 9 p.m., $60
Amy Waller, sommelier extraordinaire, German Wine Expert, and Minneapolis wine scene veteran will be joining us for a deep dive into the Germany you think you know and the Germany you don't know. We'll have a blast as we find out the places and people that make this country's wines so delicious and distinct!
The World Of Wine Series introduces 100 wines from 100 of the world’s most famous appellations. As with all of our events, we use wine as a way to connect dots; we draw lines between flavors, farming, culture, and beyond. It’s a way to sip wine and engage the world in ways that that can be sometimes hilarious, at times deadly serious, but most importantly, always intoxicatingly interesting.

2021 Christina Orange - $32.99
Christina Netzl knew by the age of five that she wanted to make wine and her family has been farming in the same village in Austria since 1650. She converted her family's vineyards to organic practices in 2013 and the charming label is an homage to the good bugs that help with pest management and vine health. Her orange wine is new to the shop and is 100% Chardonnay but this isn't like any Chard you've had before. In the glass there are herbs and heaps of exotic fruit, juicy citrus flavors and exciting tannic structure. Super cool on its own or even more enjoyable next to some aromatic cuisine like Thai curries, grilled fish, and lemon roasted chicken. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented spontaneously in contact with the skins for 18 days, in stainless steel fermenters. Once pressed, the wine spends 4 months in old vats and stainless steel with full yeast. The wine is bottled unfiltered, with light sulfur addition.

2021 Sallier de la Tour, Inzolia, Sicilia - $18.99
The noble family, Sallier de la Tour, makes this refreshing white wine in partnership with their cousins, the equally noble Tasca family. From their estate vineyards high above Palermo they grow the ancient Sicilian grape Inzolia in soils of clay and sand. The harvested grapes sit for 4 months on the lees and do not go through Malo-lactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel before bottling and cellar aging. The result is a crisp and fresh wine unencumbered by the presence of oak. Aromas of orange blossoms, lemon, almonds, and jasmine lead to a bright lemony palate lifted with mouthwatering acidity. This unique wine of Sicily makes a wonderful choice for a summer picnic on a warm and sunny day.

2021 Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo $29.99
The Scavino family are well known for excellent site specific Barolo. Their Langhe Nebbiolo is sourced from two vineyards in the notable La Morro district in Barolo and is one of the great values in approachable Nebbiolo around. The nose shows pretty aromas of dried herb and red fruit and the palate delivers rich red cherry fruit with anise and notes of cedar. The rich pop of fruit makes it incredibly drinkable this vintage. Try this wine with a grilled pork chop in a fennel and caper sauce.

Cycling Frog THC Watermelon Gummies - $12.00; 10 count, 5mg per piece
With all the new THC legislation is Minnesota rolling out this week, what better time to review a THC product? Whether you're a THC veteran or a complete beginner, Cycling Frog is a great place to start. The taste of the gummies is great in a market of products where flavoring can be very hit-or-miss. Another welcome addition is the 25 milligrams of CBD that accompanies the five milligrams of THC. The combination makes these gummies a perfect option to unwind the evening. Being a relative beginner to THC, half a gummy (2.5 milligrams) was perfect. If you've ever been curious what all the THC fuss is about, give Cycling Frog a shot!
