FIU SigEp Featured in the SigEp Journal

FIU SigEp is in the national spotlight! The Summer 2026 issue of the SigEp Journal features our Jelke Learning Community in “A New Blueprint for Fraternity Facilities,” highlighting the vision, persistence, and alumni support that brought our home on campus to life.

The feature shares the story of a decades-long effort to create a permanent gathering place for FIU SigEp. Through a partnership with the university, that dream evolved into something beyond traditional fraternity housing: a learning community with study rooms, classroom and meeting space, and a student lounge where brothers can connect between classes. The facility supports both the undergraduate experience and the broader FIU community.

The article highlights the contributions of Tom Jelke, project manager Ben Sardinas, architect Juan Linares, and Fran Oses, who crafted the building’s ironwork. It also recognizes Rebecca Jelke’s interior design work and the many alumni whose generosity and dedication helped make the project possible.

Beyond celebrating our achievement, the feature explores how our Learning Community could serve as a model for other SigEp chapters. A reflection of what committed alumni and a strong university partnership can accomplish together.

Thank you to everyone who helped turn this vision into a reality. This is a proud moment for FIU SigEp and a story worth sharing!

SigEp Day at FIU Football a Success!

We had a great showing for SigEp Day at FIU Football! Alumni, undergraduates, family and friends came together for a packed tailgate before heading into Pitbull Stadium to cheer on the Panthers.

It was great to see so many generations of FIU SigEp together, enjoying the brotherhood and supporting FIU Football. The day was made even better with a Panthers victory!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make SigEp Day another memorable Florida Nu event.

Team PigEp Represents at FIU Pig Roast

Team PigEp proudly represented FIU SigEp at this year’s FIU Pig Roast! While we didn’t bring home the trophy this time, the day was still a great success filled with brotherhood, good food, and plenty of SigEp spirit.

Thank you to the brothers who spent the time preparing, cooking, decorating, and representing FIU SigEp throughout the event. It was great to see alumni and undergraduates working together and having fun while supporting one of FIU Football’s growing traditions.

We’ll be back next year ready to compete again. Great job, Team PigEp!

Undergraduate Chapter Update

September was an exciting and productive month for Florida Nu, highlighted by one of our strongest recruitment efforts to date. More than 600 incoming freshmen applied for our Balanced Man Scholarship, culminating in our annual BMS Banquet, where FIU Honors College Dean and SigEp brother Dr. Juan Carlos Espinosa delivered the keynote address. Recruitment continued with many successful events, including Meet the SigEps, giving potential new members the opportunity to meet and interact with current brothers, recent graduates and longtime alumni and experience the lifelong brotherhood that makes SigEp unique. The chapter ultimately welcomed 34 new members into Sigma Phi Epsilon, making SigEp the largest fraternity on FIU’s campus. We were also honored to welcome former FIU President Dr. Kenneth A. Jessell to a chapter meeting, where he was recognized with an award from Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarters for his support of the Fraternity and Florida Nu.

Brotherhood and campus engagement were equally strong throughout the month. Our SigEp Day at FIU Football and season-opening tailgate were a tremendous success, bringing together undergraduate brothers, alumni, families and friends to support the Panthers. Brothers also enjoyed a Brotherhood Golf Outing at Palmetto, SPE and a Cigar Etiquette program. The Jelke Learning Community continues to serve not only our brothers but the greater FIU community. September collaborations included Catholic @ FIU holding Bible study, Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) hosting a wellness program, and the FIU E-sports Club hosting an event.

Looking ahead in October, the chapter will hold its Chapter Retreat, followed by the Career Fair on October 21 (alumni interested in participating should contact the VPSLC), our Brotherhood Poker Tournament on October 23, and a Brotherhood Softball Game on November 13. With a growing chapter, increased alumni involvement and stronger connections throughout FIU, Florida Nu is carrying great momentum into the remainder of the fall semester.
