"Set for Success"
Superintendent's Message
Dear FJUHSD Community,

We’ve officially launched into the spring season - a busy time when students are preparing to sprint to the finish line of another successful school year! I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break and were able to enjoy the company of family and friends. As we begin the 4th quarter of school, we look forward to sharing time together celebrating our students in various year-end events and activities. As I mentioned last month, our students are doing amazing things at their school sites and I hope you have the opportunity to check out the different events at each site. Please check out the calendar of events at your school’s website for information on the many end-of the year activities taking place.

I would like to commend our team of educators for their constant dedication to improving student achievement, and thank our students for continuing to work and study hard as we head into the home stretch of the 2021/22 school year. I am inspired by the many achievements and success stories coming out of our schools. I would also like to thank the Board of Trustees and the community for their support of the many amazing programs at each campus. By working together, the stage is being prepared to make sure our students are “Set For Success!”

Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Student Success is Our Community’s Success
Education and Assessment Services is excited to unveil the professional learning vision for the 2022/23 school year and beyond. The Ed Services team has been working to provide professional learning opportunities to enhance FJUHSD's educational opportunities. The phrase “SET for Success” captures our vision and represents our commitment to Supporting, Equipping, and Teaching all students in the FJUHSD. Professional learning for the coming school year will provide training and opportunities to empower our school communities with tools designed for maximizing student success. Each element of SET focuses on key strategies to meet the needs of the whole child.

  • Supporting our students with wellness-based principles, tools, and techniques that will enable students to understand themselves by developing and utilizing a social-emotional learning toolkit, providing the necessary foundation for building success both socially and academically.

  • Equipping each student with the future-ready skills necessary to thrive in a diverse and dynamic world is another area of focus. Our students need to be flexible thinkers who can efficiently solve problems, effectively communicate needs, and confidently embrace opportunity. Our schools must be training grounds for these skills, with every student equipped for the future, whether that means continued education or immediate integration into the workforce.

  • Teaching remains our essential focus. Driven by data, research, and an understanding of learning, our highly-qualified teachers and staff will implement, assess, and maintain classroom practices that build student learning capacity through meaningful district-wide training sessions through targeted Professional Learning Community sessions. In working together, our teachers and staff will continue to improve both the art and science of teaching.

SET for Success” directs our focus on refining the skills and knowledge necessary to maximize students' success both now and into their future. Working together, we are excited for this challenge and opportunity to see all our students develop, grow, and achieve over the next several months and years. We look forward to continuing the discussion with various stakeholders and are eager to share more as we plan for the 2022/23 school year.

School Bus Driver's Day
April 26, 2022

In 2009 the California legislature officially deemed the fourth Tuesday of April as School Bus Driver's Day. This is a day to recognize school bus drivers for their excellent service to students in California. The support that FJUHSD drivers' provide our students on a daily basis requires not only good driving skills and patience, but also a unique set of skills.

They are special, just like the California Special Drivers Certificate that they must carry. Bus drivers are the first and last friendly face students see every day. Our drivers are the heroes with magic powers and super capes!

Fullerton Joint Union High School District Bus Drivers are AMAZING!
Excellence Among Us
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management, and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development, and success of our students and who help to make this District exceptional.

This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize the Guidance Counselors and Guidance Technicians at the various sites that support students in the scholarship process.

The Guidance Counselors and Guidance Technicians are an important part of setting up students for success. In their roles, they are an integral part of guiding students through the oftentimes challenging process of applying for scholarships and funding for their higher education goals. They are an essential part of identifying and pairing students with scholarships that allow for financial support and relief in their higher education endeavors. Scholarships and the financial support they provide allow students to concentrate on their studies, boosting their chances of staying in school and graduating on time. Scholarship recipients have less financial worries, more time to study, and a better chance of succeeding.

Thank you to all the Guidance Counselors and Guidance Technicians for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community, and District! You truly represent excellence among us.
