"So Much to Celebrate"
Superintendent's Message

This month is focused on the theme, “So Much to Celebrate.” As we enter the final few weeks of first semester, it offers us a perfect opportunity to reflect on a very successful first half of the 2021-22 school year. In this edition of our newsletter, we would like to take a moment to highlight some of the wonderful accomplishments of our staff and students this fall semester. Over the course of this year, it has been inspiring to watch each and every staff member as they worked tirelessly to serve all of our students to the highest levels. Additionally, our families and community partners have been right along with us, as we have been able to not only return to a full in-person instructional program, but also added back experiences such as dances, athletic competitions, and performing arts events. We would like to take this moment to pause and thank each and every one of you for your commitment to FJUHSD. Because of you, FJUHSD is the wonderful district that it is. Please enjoy the picture slideshow below highlighting the many events and experiences from the first half of the school year. Finally, as we begin the month of December, we hope everyone is able to take some time to also reflect on this past year, spend quality time with family and friends, while also getting excited for all that second semester and 2022 has to offer. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we would like to wish all of our students, families, and employees Happy Holidays and New Year! We hope everyone has a relaxing, fun, and safe winter break, and we look forward to more celebrations in 2022!

Business Department

Our school sites have been supported in many areas such as ASB, booster clubs, agricultural programs, student attendance, purchasing, and payroll. This team is behind the scenes but plays a huge role in the success of our students.

Food Services

Our Food Services team has served more meals than ever (thousands of meals) compared to last year.

Transportation

With all students’ back and after school activities up and running, our transportation team has been a huge part of the success of students being in person and the ongoing operation of the school year thus far.

Thank You to our Business Services team for serving our students. They have truly gone above and beyond and have exceeded all expectations.
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is proud to announce that 37 seniors have qualified as Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of high school seniors across the nation, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

The 2021 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 353,000 other distinguished students who have earned the Merit Scholar title.

Excellence Among Us
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development and success of our students and who help to make this District exceptional.

This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize Adult Transition Program (ATP) Teacher at La Sierra High School, Sovey Long-Latteri.

Ms. Long-Latteri’s tenure with the District began in 2012 when she was hired as a Special Education (Moderate-Severe) Teacher at Sonora High School. At the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year Ms. Long-Latteri transferred to La Sierra High School where she became an integral part of the Adult Transition Program (ATP). Ms. Long-Latteri’s contributions to the program have been recognized and highlighted with her recognitions as the 2021 Fullerton Joint Union High School District Teacher of the Year, 2022 Orange County Teacher of the Year, and most recently as a 2022 California Teacher of the Year.

Thank you, Ms. Sovey Long-Latteri, for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community, District, and state! You truly represent the excellence among us.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. SOVEY LONG-LATTERI!
