Superintendent's Message
Dear FJUHSD Community,
We want to thank each and everyone of you as we collectively worked to manage the recent Omicron surge during the month of January. Through our collective efforts we were able to maintain our instructional program, while also maintaining essential athletic and extra-curricular events. We also understand that several events were postponed, and we look forward to reinstating all of those in the days and weeks to come. As we enter the month of February, we move into many exciting opportunities for our students and families, including our spring sports season, school dances, performing arts events, honoring our graduates, and preparing for registration for next year.
In this month's Newsletter, our focused theme is “Thank a Staff Member.” We would like to acknowledge that each and every staff member in the District has gone above and beyond since the beginning of the COVID Pandemic. I, personally, would like to express my appreciation to the entire FJUHSD team for making FJUHSD great and encourage you to join me in our “Thank a Staff Member” campaign by reaching out and simply expressing “thanks.” This does not have to be a grand gesture, and will help us show our collective appreciation for the time and attention given to our students and families.
In the days and weeks to come, we will continue to closely monitor COVID-19 and the Omicron variant daily, and will continue to communicate as new information becomes available. It’s been a true pleasure to be a part of the FJUHSD community for the past eight months, and I am confident we will continue to maintain our focus on providing a supportive and robust educational experience for all of our students and families. Food Services
The Food Service team has gone above and beyond this year, and compared to any other year, they have served more meals. Navigating our team through staffing shortages, they have stepped up to the challenge and served over 161,725 meals (breakfast, lunch, and supper). This is over 38,468 more meals than a typical school year. Our district, community and students appreciate the dedication and hard work.

National School Couseling Week
National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), is celebrated the first week in February. The 2022 theme is “School Counseling: Better Together.” National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in being actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; working in partnership with parents; focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career and social/emotional development; and, working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic aspirations for themselves. The District would like to thank and honor our School Counselors for their commitment and dedication to our students.

The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development and success of our students and who help to make this District exceptional.
This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize the District Principal Secretaries, Diana Oseguera, Benigna Rodriguez, Sandi Dimick, TJ Herman, Teresa Zambrano, Patty Johnson and Maria Williams.
Anyone who has spent any time in the main office of any one of our schools knows that the Principal Secretaries play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of their campuses. While they provide a wide array of services to the students, parents, staff members, administrative team and members of their school communities each and every day, the Principal Secretaries have, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, worked magic to assign substitute teachers to fill in for our permanent staff who have been unable to work due to illness, the need to quarantine or to care for family members.
Coordinating with the staff members on their campuses, the Principal Secretaries have successfully overcome the heightened absenteeism caused by the pandemic, along with a countywide shortage of substitute teachers, to ensure that our students have a qualified staff member or administrator present in their classes each day. This requires the time consuming and labor intensive task of identifying staff members who may be available for a given period and piecing together individual period coverage in order to provide classroom coverage throughout the day. The work of the Principals’ Secretaries has been a significant reason that uninterrupted instruction has continued on a consistent basis throughout this challenging pandemic.
Thank you Ms. Oseguera, Ms. Rodriguez, Ms. Dimick, Ms. Herman, Ms. Zambrano, Ms. Johnson and Ms. Williams for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community and District! Each of you truly represents the excellence among us.

During the month of February, the Fullerton Joint Union High School District is highlighting Staff Appreciation. The Facilities and Construction Division would like to take the opportunity to thank Andy Kim for his exceptional service and commitment to our District.
Andy Kim has worked at FJUHSD since June of 2019 as an Assistant Manager of Construction Projects. In this capacity, Mr. Kim has been responsible for coordinating many details on a wide variety of projects within the District to improve school sites for the students we serve. Some of these projects include: Sunny Hills High School Theater Modernization, Buena Park High School Gymnasium and most recently, the Buena Park High School Aquatic Facility.
Andy's day-to-day attention to detail has ensured the successful completion of these projects and many others. The completion of these projects has improved the learning environment for our students. Andy enjoys the sense of accomplishment that accompanies seeing the positive impact this has had on the students.
Thank you, Andy, for your dedication and drive to help the Facilities and Construction Division get the job done smoothly and on schedule! Fullerton Joint Union High School District truly appreciates your contributions.
