Dear FJUHSD Community,
Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2022!
What an honor it was seeing the joy on our graduates’ faces as they walked across the stage in front of friends, family members, teachers, and fellow students to complete their high school career. This is the first graduating class that I have had the pleasure to be a part of as Superintendent of FJUHSD, and it will always hold a special connection and place in my heart.
In reflecting on the 2021/22 school year, it brings us great pride that we have stayed true to the theme of the year around “Making Meaningful Connections.” Over the course of this year, the FJUHSD community has come together to continue to navigate the changing dynamics of COVID, supporting both the academic and social emotional needs of our students and staff members, while creating moments to be celebrated throughout all of our school sites. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we would like to send out a heartfelt “Thank You” to each and every one of you for ensuring this was such a successful school year.
As we head into summer, I am energized and excited to look ahead to the next school year. We have already started planning for the 2022/23 school year, and we are very enthusiastic about the goals and plans being set to welcome everyone back on August 15th at our new start time of 8:30 a.m. We look forward to making many more meaningful connections as we continue to work, learn, and grow Together.
With that, I wish you a restful and energizing summer break, and if there is anything we can do to support you, please feel free to reach out.
Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Our Custodians Rock!
Our custodians work hard every day for our students and staff. These past two years have brought many challenges due to new COVID cleaning protocols. Thank you for your diligence in keeping all of our sites clean and sanitized during the pandemic.
|
|
As we prepared for our graduation ceremonies, our custodial staff worked hard at getting our facilities in shape for families and friends to attend the ceremonies of their graduating seniors. Again, thank you for all your hard work in making our facilities shine!

As warm summer days and summer break approaches, Human Resources continues its efforts to recruit staff for the 2022/23 school year.
The month of May brought opportunities for Human Resources to meet new potential employees in both a face-to-face setting as well as a virtual setting. Human Resources staff members participated in two job fairs. The in-person job fair, sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE), took place on May 7th and saw approximately 340 attendees. The second job fair was hosted virtually by the Tulare County Office of Education on May 26th and had approximately 1450 applicants registered and in attendance (virtually). Both events allowed the District the opportunity to expand its recruitment and make connections with viable, potential candidates. The virtual job fair in particular allowed the District to expand its recruitment “reach” throughout the entire state of California.
The department is hopeful that both of these events will bring many viable candidates to the open job postings.

State Testing
Annual state testing for English language arts, math, science, and English language development is almost completed. The District would like to thank and celebrate the accomplishments of the test administration teams at each District school. Without the dedication and coordinated efforts of these staff members, the District would not be able to reach its goal of testing at least 95% of all eleventh grade students (and all seniors in science) at each of the comprehensive high schools. Thank you test administration teams!

LSHS Annual Special Education Talent Show
Jose Garcia kicked off the 8th Annual Talent Show by performing the National Anthem for a packed auditorium at the Muckenthaler Center on May 13, 2022 and it was another year of show stopping performances by the La Sierra High School special education students. The Master of Ceremonies, Ernesto Garcia, introduced us to individual, small group, and whole class performances that included singing, dancing, magic tricks, and even a blind-folded tent assembly demonstration. Thank you to the special education students and staff for providing the FJUHSD community with this wonderful show. We look forward to next year’s talent show and if you did not have the opportunity to attend this year, you definitely won’t want to miss it next year.
