Upcoming Board of Trustees Meetings

Dear FJUHSD Community,
The season of giving thanks is here! During the month of November we are reminded to pause and find gratitude in all things big and small.
In his book, The Big Potential, author Shawn Achor states, “when you choose to act with gratitude or joy, you make joy and gratitude easier for others, who in turn give you more reasons to be grateful and joyous.” This cycle of gratitude is a reminder of how important it is to spend time each day reflecting on things that fill you with gratitude.
At the October 11 Board Meeting, we had the pleasure of recognizing staff members from our Visual and Performing Arts Programs and students and advisors from the Associated Student Body (ASB). It was a great opportunity to highlight the amazing activities these talented individuals organize for their schools. We are also excited to be able to display student artwork in the Boardroom on a rotating basis each month. This is a great opportunity for staff members and the community to share in the enjoyment of the creativity and imagination these students possess.
I am grateful to serve as the Superintendent of such a fantastic school district. As we head into this harvest season, let’s take the time to plant seeds of gratitude and watch them grow!
Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D.
Superintendent

For the 2022-23 school year, FJUHSD was approved to implement Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at Buena Park, Fullerton Union, La Habra, and La Vista High Schools. Parents with students who attend these schools will not be required to complete a lunch application form. Conversely, FJUHSD was not approved for CEP for Sunny Hills, Sonora, and Troy High Schools. While meals will continue to be served to students at no cost at non-CEP schools, the District will be encouraging parents who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete a 2022-23 lunch application. The District Food Services team is here to support. Please contact us for questions or assistance at (714) 870-2820 or by email at [email protected].

Fullerton Union High School Auditorium
|
|
In anticipation of the ribbon cutting of the Auditorium, we have a flurry of activities happening to bring the project to completion. Contractors are working on their finishing touches and the District teams are making sure the building is ready for use. The building looks great with the addition of new sidewalks and entrances to the ADA accessible lobby (entering off of Lemon St). We are making sure the curtains are hung and the lights and sound are ready. We will be celebrating the ribbon cutting on November 3, 2022. Please see the announcement below for more information.

The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development and success of our students and who help to make this District exceptional.
This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize Sunny Hills High School Custodians Freddy Morales and Freddie Yslas and Troy High School Custodian Mark Molina.
Each Friday night throughout the fall, high schools across America meet one another under the stadium lights to compete in the game of football. These games are an integral part of our schools’ cultures and communities and are enjoyed by students, parents, staff and the public alike. Anyone who has attended a high school football game knows that what makes the Friday night game so meaningful is the fact that it thrills the senses. The schools’ colors, the national anthem erupting from the marching band, school spirit visibly and audibly rising from the student sections, the singing of the cheerleaders, the roar of the fans when a touchdown is scored, and the mouth-watering smell of barbeque bedazzles the eyes, ears and noses of all who are present. Add to the game a Homecoming half-time show, complete with the crowning of a Homecoming King and Queen, and you have an event that is destined to create memories carried for life.
But long before the game begins and a lifetime of memories can be made, much work must be completed in order for the show to go on. The pregame preparations needed to have a game are performed by custodians from our school sites, and while their hard work and dedication goes mostly unnoticed these games could not go on without them and the support they provide. It is the work of District custodians like Freddy Morales, Freddie Yslas and Mark Molina, as well as that of their fellow colleagues at Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra and Sonora High Schools, that makes the Friday night football game possible. Their unseen dedication to setting the stage each Friday night allows our students to shine brightly beneath the stadium lights.
Thank you to Mr. Morales, Mr. Yslas, Mr. Molina and all of the District Custodians who provide support to our athletic programs for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community and District! You truly represent the excellence among us.

Together We Are Thankful!
|

Together we are thankful for the Fullerton, La Habra and Buena Park Police Departments, who recently took time to provide our parents with a parent workshop “Tips all Parents Should Know.” Our parent community learned about internet threats, cyber bullying, drug trends, fentanyl and more. We would like to thank our School Resources Officers and all of our police partners.

Suicide Prevention Lifeline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
