Dear FJUHSD Staff, Students, and Community,
Our theme this year is Every Student, Every Day, highlighting our commitment to supporting, connecting, and creating opportunities for every student across FJUHSD.
On September 25th, we held our annual Student Advisory Council (SAC) Symposium at La Habra High School. This year’s theme, Every Student, Every Voice, brought student leaders together for a day of leadership, collaboration, school spirit, and the ASB Olympics. Be sure to check out the Symposium highlights in our newsletter!
We also hosted our 2nd Annual Student Board Member OC Summit on September 30th, welcoming seven Orange County school districts and more than 50 attendees to connect, share ideas, and strengthen student voices.
This month, we recognize Week of the School Administrator, October 12–18th, and thank our administrators for their leadership and dedication to our students and schools.
As a reminder, FJUHSD will participate in The Great ShakeOut on October 15th at 10:15 a.m. as we continue to prioritize safety and preparedness across the District.
Wishing everyone a wonderful fall as we continue to support Every Student, Every Day!
Warm regards,
Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D.

La Habra’s State of the City
FJUHSD was proud to participate in the City of La Habra’s State of the City, where we shared a special video highlighting the strong connection between FJUHSD, La Habra High School, Sonora High School, and the City of La Habra. Our schools are more than places of learning, they are an important part of the community. Generations of students and families have built traditions, created lasting memories, and contributed to the city they call home. We are proud of the partnership, history, and community spirit that connect our schools and the City of La Habra, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen that relationship for years to come. Every Student, Every Voice 🎤
Our 2026/27 Annual Student Advisory Council (SAC) Symposium brought students from across FJUHSD together for an exciting day of leadership, connection, and student voice. Student Board Member Cambria Dominguez from Sunny Hills High School and SAC Vice Chair Jayden Aguirre from Sonora High School helped lead the day as students connected, collaborated, and celebrated this year’s theme, Every Student, Every Voice. Students participated in leadership sessions focused on Your Voice Outside ASB, Your Voice Is an Instrument, Your Voice Is Power, and Your Voice Is Creative, exploring ways to build community, strengthen leadership, collaborate across schools, and bring new ideas back to their campuses. The day also featured the ASB Olympics on the football field, bringing school teams together for some fun and friendly competition! A huge thank you to our SAC Chair Committee and all of our students for the planning, creativity, energy, and leadership that made this such a great day. | | FJUHSD Hosts Second Annual Student Board Member OC Summit | | |
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD) proudly hosted its Second Annual Student Board Member Orange County Summit on September 30, bringing together more than 50 students and staff from school districts across Orange County for a morning of connection, collaboration, and student leadership.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the Summit welcomed Student Board Members and staff representatives from Anaheim Union High School District, Brea Olinda Unified School District, Capistrano Unified School District, Laguna Beach Unified School District, Newport-Mesa Unified School District, Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, Santa Ana Unified School District, and Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
Throughout the morning, students had the opportunity to connect with fellow student leaders, exchange ideas, and learn more about how student voice and representation look across different districts. Participants took part in a collaborative group activity and breakout sessions, creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, relationship-building, and the sharing of experiences and ideas they can bring back to their own schools and districts.
Representing FJUHSD was Student Board Member Cambria Dominguez of Sunny Hills High School, alongside members of the District’s Student Advisory Council, ASB students, administrators, and Activities Directors, who helped welcome participants and contributed to the day’s activities and discussions.
The Summit continued to center around three goals — Connect, Collaborate, and Build — encouraging students to connect with their peers, collaborate across district lines, and build a strong network of Student Board Members and student leaders throughout Orange County.
The District is proud to continue the Student Board Member OC Summit and provide a space where student leaders can come together, share their voices, learn from one another, and develop connections that extend beyond their own districts. FJUHSD looks forward to continuing to grow this annual event and creating even more opportunities for student voice and leadership across Orange County. Click here to see more pictures from the day.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day!
This is an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and remind students that support is available when they need it. At FJUHSD, supporting student wellness is a year-round commitment.
And we’re already off to a strong start. In just the first month of school, across the District:
422 Wellness Space visits | 38 classroom wellness presentations | 182 student wellness sessions.
Across our schools, students have access to a full-time Mental Health Specialist and dedicated Wellness Space, along with a continuum of services focused on prevention and wellness, skill-building and early support, school-based counseling, crisis response, and connections to additional resources when needed.
Our Districtwide campaigns reinforce this commitment throughout the year. We began September with Every Connection Matters, emphasizing suicide prevention, connection, and help-seeking. In November, Every Student Belongs will focus on strengthening belonging and school connectedness. February's Every Student Supported will promote stress management and resilience, followed by Every Mind Matters in May as we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month.
Together, these efforts help ensure students feel connected, supported, and know where to turn for help.

Celebrating Our Administrators: Partners in Student Success
As we celebrate School Administrator Week, October 12–18th, we recognize and appreciate the dedicated leadership of our Human Resources administrators. Every day, they lead with purpose, supporting the people and processes that help create an environment where Every Student, Every Day, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
Our Human Resources administrators play an essential role in supporting employees, strengthening organizational practices, navigating complex personnel matters, and ensuring our District continues to move forward. Through thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and meaningful relationships, they help foster a culture where employees feel supported, valued, and connected to the work of serving students. As Human Resources, they are proud to support our administrators through CARE—Connecting, Appreciating, Reflecting, and Elevating. They are committed to listening, collaborating, and providing the guidance and resources needed to support our employees, schools, and District as a whole. Thank you to our Human Resources administrators for your leadership, dedication, and care. We also extend our appreciation to all FJUHSD administrators for your continued commitment to supporting our students, staff, schools, and District each and every day. Together, we continue to make a difference by keeping our focus where it matters most: Every Student, Every Day!

Fiscal Services, Behind the Scenes:
Every Student, Every Day!
In Fiscal Services, much of our work happens behind the scenes, but its impact can be seen across our schools every day. From developing and monitoring budgets to processing purchase orders, paying vendors, managing payroll, and supporting the financial needs of our schools and departments, our team plays an important role in keeping District operations moving forward.
Every budget we build, purchase we process, and employee we pay ultimately connects back to one common goal: supporting our students. A budget line may represent instructional materials that help a teacher bring a lesson to life, equipment that supports an athletic program, supplies that make an arts program possible, or an opportunity that allows students to participate, explore, and grow.
Our role is not simply to manage District resources. It is to make sure those resources are available when and where they are needed so our schools can focus on what matters most, serving Every Student, Every Day.

National Bus Safety Week
October 19–23rd is National School Bus Safety Week. This year’s theme, Safe Rides, Everyday Heroes, recognizes the dedicated District Transportation staff who help students travel safely to and from school each day and reminds our community that student safety is a shared responsibility. School buses are one of the safest ways for students to travel to and from school. Families can help by reviewing safe bus stop habits with their children, while motorists can do their part by slowing down, remaining alert for students, and stopping for school buses when required. Together, we can help ensure Every Student, Every Day gets to school and home safely.

HVAC Improvements Across the District
Providing comfortable, well-maintained learning environments is an important part of supporting Every Student, Every Day! Across the District, our Maintenance and Operations teams continue to work diligently to ensure our schools and facilities have reliable heating and cooling systems. At Sonora High School, HVAC technicians used a crane to install a new 7-ton air conditioning unit, while at the Education Center, technicians installed two new split-system air conditioning units. These projects represent the ongoing work taking place behind the scenes to maintain comfortable and functional environments for students, staff, and visitors. We appreciate the dedication of our Maintenance and Operations teams and the skilled technicians who help keep our schools ready for learning and our offices ready to support Every Student, Every Day.
