"Together We Are FJUHSD"
Superintendent's Message
Dear FJUHSD Community,

It’s great to see students back on campus and fully participating in the many offerings across each school site. We jumped into the 2022/23 school year by welcoming over 13,000 students and 1,150 staff members back to campus. As we move into the school year, we are excited to watch as students explore and experience the quality education that the FJUHSD team of educators afford them.

I want to thank our parents for attending Back to School Night at the sites and being engaged in the success and education of their children. Our work together requires collaboration and a shared vision of seeing our students achieve. Under the leadership of the Board of Trustees, FJUHSD has strengthened its commitment to academic excellence by building a network of programs and services to meet each students’ unique academic, social, and emotional needs.

This month we are celebrating the incredible community partners we have the good fortune to collaborate with throughout the year. These partnerships include five Rotarys from Buena Park, Fullerton, and La Habra, Fullerton and La Habra Collaboratives, Fullerton’s Love of OC Kids (FLOCK), Advance! on to College, Assistance League of Fullerton, and many others. We are excited to recognize our tremendous partnerships at our upcoming Board Meeting on September 13.

We look forward to entering the new year committed to supporting our students and working hard to ensure their success. Together We Are FJUHSD!

For the 2022-23 school year, FJUHSD was approved to implement Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at Buena Park, Fullerton Union, La Habra, and La Vista High Schools. Parents with students who attend these schools will not be required to complete a lunch application form. Conversely, FJUHSD was not approved for CEP for Sunny Hills, Sonora, and Troy High Schools. While meals will continue to be served to students at no cost at non-CEP schools, the District will be encouraging parents who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete a 2022-23 lunch application. The District Food Services team is here to support. Please contact us for questions or assistance at (714) 870-2820 or by email at [email protected].
We are saying our goodbyes...
September 30 will be Chris MacMeekin's last day working in the Business Services Department. She began her career at Fullerton Joint Union High School District in October 1999 in a temporary position in Payroll/HR assisting in helping set up Aeries/HR software. She worked in this capacity until September 2000 when she was moved to the District Service Center as a temporary senior Account Clerk. She worked at the Service Center until May 2001. In July 2001 she moved to Business Services working as a temporary senior account clerk assisting Purchasing and Payroll. In August 2001 she was able to secure a permanent position with Business Services continuing to work with Purchasing and Payroll. In 2003 her assignment changed to Construction accountant as the first modernization bond was passed. When the accountant position opened in late 2003, she applied and was selected to fill the position. She continued in this position until September 2007 when the position was upgraded to Accounting Supervisor. In April 2019 the accounting supervisor position was upgraded to Manager, Fiscal Services.

Chris has been such an asset to our District for a very long time. Her knowledge and experience will be truly missed. We wish Chris the very best in her retirement.
Excellence Among Us
The Fullerton Joint Union High School District is fortunate to be served by many outstanding classified, certificated, supervisory, confidential, management, and administrative staff members. Each month, Human Resources has the honor of showcasing a staff member or members who contribute to the support, development, and success of our students and who help to make this District and community exceptional.

This month, Human Resources is proud to recognize District Swimming Pool Mechanic, Mr. Joe Sliker. The swimming pool at each school serves an important function on the campus and contributes to the experiences of our students on an almost daily basis. Hundreds of student athletes participate in waterpolo and swimming throughout the District, and the pools at our school sites provide them a place to practice, to compete, to learn to be part of a team and to gain experiences that will serve them throughout their lives. Additionally, the students enrolled in our physical education classes utilize the pools as part of their physical fitness program. Our swimming pools are also used by our communities, including club aquatic and learn-to-swim programs. Simply stated, the District’s six swimming pools serve hundreds of stakeholders throughout the year.

Joe Sliker is solely responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of all of the District’s swimming pools, and it is he who ensures that our pools are clean and safe for the daily use of our athletes, physical education students and community organizations. In addition to the maintenance of the chemical composition of the pools and the cleaning of the filtration systems and pools themselves, Joe, whenever and wherever possible, addresses the simple day-to-day maintenance issues that would otherwise detract from the experience of those who utilize our pools. If the bolts of a diving board have become loose, Joe is the man-on-the-scene who can quickly fix the problem and avoid having to wait for the issue to be referred, assigned and completed.

Thank you, Joe, for your exceptional service to our staff, students, parents, community, and District! You truly represent the excellence among us.

This week Educational Services kicked off a professional learning series with a fantastic workshop for our incredible Counselors and Guidance Techs! FJUHSD Guidance is SET for Success!
Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
