Celebrating Dr. Daniel Van Durme
Florida family medicine lost an icon on Tuesday with the passing of FAFP Past President ('96), Dan Van Durme, MD, MPH, FAAFP, as the result of injuries from a motorcycle accident that occurred last month. Dr. Van Durme mentored thousands of family physicians and medical students during his nearly 35 years of serving in faculty and leadership positions at both the USF and FSU Colleges of Medicine. His selfless and innumerable contributions to these organizations as well as his volunteerism within the FAFP, AAFP, and countless humanitarian organizations will never be forgotten. Details regarding arrangements for the celebration of Dr. Van Durme's life will be provided to the membership as soon as available.
Telehealth After COVID-19 FAQ Page Launched!
The FAFP has released a new FAQ page to address questions related to providing telehealth services since the national Public Health Emergency (PHE) ended on May 11, 2023. FAFP Chair of Continuing Professional Development, Dr. Julia Jenkins, developed this important resource to help guide Florida's Family Physicians through any confusion associated with changes from both a state and federal level. Any questions not addressed in the FAQ can be directed to Jay Millson at [email protected]
May Member Spotlight - Dr. Joanne Saxour
"Some people know they want to be a doctor or a teacher from a young age. Honestly, becoming a doctor never crossed my mind until I was about to graduate from college. Once I was a Family Medicine resident, I never thought that I would be a teacher of medicine. However, when I reflect on where my career has taken me, I know that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be."
