Social Concerns Committee:
Courageous Conversations to Look at Domestic Violence
Members of First Lutheran Church should mark on their calendars Sunday evening, April 28th to attend the second session of Courageous Conversations. Beginning at 5:00 p.m., the Social Concerns Committee will be hosting a program on the topic of Domestic Abuse. Although plans are not finalized at this time, Suzanne Smith of the Bridge has agreed to have someone lead the discussion. We encourage you to participate in this program which is a very real serious and lasting concerns in American Life. Be watching the E-Blasts in the next couple of weeks for further information about this program.
A pot luck dinner will follow the presentation. Participants are encouraged to bring something to share with others which might include a main dish, a side dish, or a desert. Beverages and tableware will be provided.
Join us as we look into the very real and serious problem of domestic abuse in Washington County and the nation.
Equal Exchange Display to Up Until Wednesday, April 24th
After having promised that the Equal Exchange Display would be up on the first week-end of each month, we recently learned that it was not up on the week-end of April 6th and 7th. For this reason, the Social Concerns Committee would like to apologize to members of the congregation who were looking to buy any product on that week-end. It just did not get done.
For that reason, the Social Concerns Committee will be having the Equal Exchange booth up for the next couple of week-ends (April 12 and 13; and April 20 and 21st). It will be then taken down after the Life-Night Session on April 24th.
Equal Exchange is a program set up to assist Third World Farmers to the selling of their products for a fair and equitable price by by-passing the middle man. Such items include coffee, teas, chocolate candies. Pecans as well as other items. We invite members of the congregation to take a look and see it there is anything that you would like to have. It is a freewill offering with only suggested pricing. Not only will you be helping third world farmers, but you will be getting a wonderful product.
Again, our sincere apologies about the lack of a booth the first week-end of April.
