Social Concerns Committee:

Our 11th Annual "Have a Heart for Hunger" campaign was very successful, thanks to many faithful members of FLC!  Although we didn't quite reach our goal of collecting 1,200 lbs. of food (short only 29 lbs.), that shortage was well compensated for by cash gifts  received, which were $511.80 at the special collection day at Family Fare on February 11, and $348 at FLC, making a total cash gift to the Washington County Food Pantry of $859.80!  This will make it possible for the Food Pantry to purchase a large quantity of food, since that entity is able to purchase food at wholesale prices. We extend a huge THANK YOU to all who demonstrated their love and caring for our near neighbors with your participation!

EQUAL EXCHANGE FAIR TRADED PRODUCTS will again be available for purchase this Wednesday, March 8.  This is an opportunity to buy products that we use regularly, and to help support 3rd World small farmers, so that they can get fair prices for their products and be able to feed their families and strengthen their communities.

Choir News

But what if I can't sing?  A tiny percentage of the population truly cannot sing. Most of us have been given the air and vocal cords we need, and what we may lack is confidence. Perhaps a negative experience affected your willingness to sing. We can develop and learn how to sing at any age.  Choir can be one opportunity to explore the voice you didn't know you had.

For more information and questions, contact Vince, at vkrysl@firstlutheranblair.org

Communion Update:

Thank you for helping with this accommodation for Pastor Glen: because it is difficult for Pastor to bring communion to members in the pews, if you find it physically difficult to come forward during communion, we invite you to pick up the communion elements as you come into the Sanctuary and receive them during the communion liturgy when the Pastor indicates.

SCAM ALERT

Scammers are pretending to be a pastor, rabbi, priest, imam, or bishop. They’re asking worshipers for gift card contributions for a worthy cause.

These appeals are fraudulent. If you receive a phone call, text, or email asking for amazon gift cards, itunes, etc. Feel free to contact the church office to verify. Do not share any personal details.

If you or someone you know paid a scammer with a gift card, report it as soon as possible. Call the card company and tell them the gift card was used in a scam. Here is contact information for some of the gift card companies that scammers use most often. Then, tell the FTC about it at ftc.gov/complaint. Your reports may help law enforcement agencies launch investigations that could stop imposters and other fraudsters in their tracks.
