LIFE Night Worship this Wednesday,

October 23rd

Life Night Worship explores the Sermon on the Mount.

This week: Matt 6:25-34. We are surrounded daily by noisy anxieties. Faith is the comfort that stills the fears and distractions that consume our joy and hope.

Courageous Conversations:

The next Courageous Conversation will feature a discussion of the draft Social Statement “Civil Life and Faith,” which is being considered for adoption by the ELCA at the 2025 National Assembly. Our speaker will be Gretchen Ahrens, the Synod Director for Justice Ministries who represented the Synod during the creation of the document. You can look at the statement ahead of time here Civic_Life_and_Faith_Draft.pdf (elca.org) or there are printed copies at the Welcome Center (or Pastor Glen can provide one for you.) The Conversation will happen Sunday, November 10^th at 5:00 pm. Soup will be provided by the Social Concerns committee – please bring a side dish or desert to share.

 The annual fundraising craft fair hosted by the First Lutheran Church Women will be November 23, 2024. Please save the date to your calendar and consider volunteering to bake, serve the noon meal, work the bake sale table, or clean up. Sign up sheets will be available at the Welcome Center Oct. 27. Contact Rhonda McMurtry 402-427-3341 or Amy Mommsen 402-677-3294 with any questions or to be a vendor.  

Let’s Sing! 

Do you love to sing choral music? The Blair Area Community Choir (Blair, Nebraska) will be meeting on Sundays from 5:00-6:00 pm to rehearse for our annual Christmas concert. Our first practice will be on Sunday, October 27th at First Lutheran Church in Blair. We will have six rehearsals and perform with the Community Band on December 8th. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers…to join us! This is a fun, talented group of singers.

Missing Tablecloths

The women are missing some large tablecloths that we use for funerals - both white and cream colored. Maybe someone has taken them home to wash and has forgotten to bring them back to church. The women would greatly appreciate their return. Thank you for all of your help!

Thankoffering Letters

Be on the lookout in the next few weeks for our annual Thankoffering letters. We will be handing them out before the mid October services. We will also have some available on the women’s table and the welcome center.

Thankofferings:

Encourage women to respond monetarily as they give thanks.

Help Women of the ELCA provide needed resources for: events, programs, leadership

training, global education, anti-racism work, grants, scholarships, social media outreach,

ecumenical collaboration, sex trafficking awareness and prevention, and much more.

Help women of the ELCA provide an annual gift to the ELCA that recognizes our partnership with ELCA as a whole.

We give thanks for YOU, our sisters in Christ. Please return your Thankoffering envelope at one of our services in the next two weeks. You may also drop it off at the church office at any time.

Monday Morning Bible Study

Martin Luther loved Paul’s letter to the Galatians and considered it his “beloved Katie.” One of Paul’s earliest writings, it is carefully constructed love letter that begs a deep dive into its powerful proclamation of the Gospel. Pastor Glen will lead us through his own translation process and help us open up

Paul’s words and thoughts.

Choir News

 Choir rehearsals have started up again on Tuesdays!

We are always looking for new members to join us!

The choir rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the choir room (take the elevator to the

second floor and turn left). Regular attendance is

Flowers for Worship Services

Would you like to provide flowers for worship services at First Lutheran in celebration of an important event in your life or to honor someone important? We would be grateful for your gift! Please follow these directions:

1. Sign up for an available weekend on the flower chart on the bulletin board outside the Sacristy door. Only one family per weekend please.

2. Mark your calendar or leave yourself a reminder! You will NOT receive a reminder notice from the church prior to the weekend you have chosen.

3. You are responsible to order and pay for a floral arrangement and provide for it to be delivered or brought to the church on the Friday afternoon prior to the weekend you would like it used. The church staff is NOT available to order or pick up flowers for you.

4. You may wish to consider the season of the church and choose suitable colors. Please bring LIVE flower arrangements only.

5. Information about the flowers and to whom they are dedicated must be provided to the church office (office@firstlutheranblair.org) by Thursday afternoon. It will be included in the weekly email blast.

Women's Bible Study 

The Friday Morning Women’s Bible Study will begin a new study entitled “From Beginning to Forever” by Elizabeth Woodson.  “Too often we have just a fragmented understanding of parts of the bible.  This leads us to see the Scripture through the lens of our individual stories, causing us to miss God’s bigger story-His redemption and restoration of the entire world.  In this study, Elizabeth Woodson explains how all sixty-six books of the Bible combine to form one unified narrative. We will see how the rich theological truths found in Genesis through Revelation show us the eternal significance of what God is doing in the world and how He invites us to be a part of it.”  This Bible study will combine a video with a study guide and meets in the church library on Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.  If interested in coming to this Bible study, contact Susie Pinquoch at (402) 426-8182 or email at spinquoch@gpcom.net.
