Pastor Glen's focus for his message for

this upcoming weekend:

Scientists hypothesize that 95% of the universe is comprised of “dark matter.” Sometimes that's easy to believe, given the amount of sadness and suffering all around us. But 95 is not 100. And even the smallest spark can dramatically alter the dark. In this season of advent we celebrate the light come into the darkness and how that changes everything. God's promise begins with but a small shoot, but that humble moment has a great name: “The Lord is our Righteousness.”

3rd Annual Advent Path of Light

Wednesday, December 4th at 6:45pm

Please join us for an opportunity to experience Advent in 5 different stations, Hope, Peace, Joy, Love, and Christ. We will have activities and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall for our FLC family to enjoy together as we begin this most special season in our church year.

Contact Erika for more details.

Social Concerns Committee:

The Annual Alternative Giving display is in the narthex for the upcoming holiday season. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to look at the materials on the table and consider a unique gift that “keeps on giving” by helping those in need.  Our focus areas for this season include: Washington County Food Pantry, God’s Global Barnyard and Lutheran Disaster Response, however, you can direct a gift to any of your favorite charitable organizations in honor of a friend or loved one.  The Equal Exchange products have also been stocked up and will be available at the display.

We will again be collecting Winterwear to help our neighbors through the cold winter months ahead. A box will be set up at the church to collect your new or gently used coats, mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters and blankets.  Items collected will be shared as needed with Joseph’s Coat and the Open Door Mission/Lydia House. Children and adult sizes welcome. Please ensure the items are clean or laundered.  The box will be available through the Christmas holidays.

Advent Theme

Welcome to Advent 2024: In Light and Darkness

Barbara Brown Taylor’s book, Learning to Walk in the Dark, asks, “What can light possibly mean without dark?” This

Advent season, we gather for a

conversation about how we experience light IN THE MIDST of darkness. Together we will explore how this understanding influences the way we view God, our faith, and the world.

Each week we will add light and brightness to our

worship space. Weekend and midweek messages will explore how the light of Christ grows in our hearts and world. All of our worship services will share texts and prayers to create a common experience of the

journey of Advent. Mid-week worship services will

also feature music from Holden Evening Prayer.

You are invited to add the Advent devotion calendar

focused on Light and Darkness to your preparations for Christmas. They are located on the Welcome Center.

May this Advent season open your heart to welcome the light that has come into the Dark of the World, our

Savior Jesus Christ!

CRAFT FAIR THANK YOU!

The craft fair committee would like to thank all those who supported the fundraiser with donations of baked goods or time. Seventy plus volunteers set up tables, provided foods, served lunch, manned the bake sale table, dismantled tables, and set up chairs for church. We couldn't have put on a successful event without all the volunteers. Thank you!

Monday Morning Bible Study

Martin Luther loved Paul’s letter to the Galatians and considered it his “beloved Katie.” One of Paul’s earliest writings, it is carefully constructed love letter that begs a deep dive into its powerful proclamation of the Gospel. Pastor Glen will lead us through his own translation process and help us open up

Paul’s words and thoughts.

Choir News

Choir rehearsals have started up again on Tuesdays!

We are always looking for new members to join us!

The choir rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the choir room (take the elevator to the

second floor and turn left). Regular attendance is

encouraged but don't be discouraged if you can't make it each week. You are welcome to join as often as you can. For more information and questions, contact Vince at VKrysl@firstlutheranblair.org

1. Sign up for an available weekend on the flower chart on the bulletin board outside the Sacristy door. Only one family per weekend please.

2. Mark your calendar or leave yourself a reminder! You will NOT receive a reminder notice from the church prior to the weekend you have chosen.

3. You are responsible to order and pay for a floral arrangement and provide for it to be delivered or brought to the church on the Friday afternoon prior to the weekend you would like it used. The church staff is NOT available to order or pick up flowers for you.

4. You may wish to consider the season of the church and choose suitable colors. Please bring LIVE flower arrangements only.

5. Information about the flowers and to whom they are dedicated must be provided to the church office (office@firstlutheranblair.org) by Thursday afternoon. It will be included in the weekly email blast.

Women's Bible Study

The Friday Morning Women’s Bible Study will begin a new study entitled “From Beginning to Forever” by Elizabeth Woodson.  “Too often we have just a fragmented understanding of parts of the bible.  This leads us to see the Scripture through the lens of our individual stories, causing us to miss God’s bigger story-His redemption and restoration of the entire world.  In this study, Elizabeth Woodson explains how all sixty-six books of the Bible combine to form one unified narrative. We will see how the rich theological truths found in Genesis through Revelation show us the eternal significance of what God is doing in the world and how He invites us to be a part of it.”  This Bible study will combine a video with a study guide and meets in the church library on Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.  If interested in coming to this Bible study, contact Susie Pinquoch at (402) 426-8182 or email at spinquoch@gpcom.net.

Do you participate in our online worship services?

If you watch our services on Facebook or other sites, please like the post or leave a comment each time. This will help us improve our accuracy in attendance numbers at First Lutheran.
