January 2016
Dear Friend of FLD:

We hope 2016 is off to a great start for all of you! We were very happy with the results of our major projects that came to fruition in 2015 - construction of our new barrel house, a successful launch of our products in California, and steady growth in our overall business.

Earlier this month, we hired a new head distiller, Jared Baker. You can read Jared's bio below. We hope you'll come out soon to meet him - perhaps at our upcoming Whiskey 101 Seminar
( tickets here) which still has a few spots available.

Though the Finger Lakes can be a little cold and bleak this time of year, it really is a nice time to hit the wine trail. Business owners and managers are a bit more accessible and you can take
your time tasting through products and learning about the stories behind the companies. Here at FLD, we can keep you warm with our  Saturday hot toddies we are serving at the tasting bar.   See the recipes below.

Thanks for all of your support,

Brian McKenzie
Our New Distiller, Jared
We are very excited to announce a new member of the Finger Lakes Distilling  team, our Production Manager and Distiller, Jared Baker.

A native of the Adirondack region of New York State,  Jared  comes to Finger Lakes Distilling from Elmira College where he served as an Assistant Professor of  Chemistry.    An analytical chemist by training,  Jared  holds a PhD in Chemistry with a focus on chemical separations (like distillation!) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Chemistry from the University of Montana.    For the past three years his research at Elmira College has focused on the chemical composition of various Finger Lakes Distilling whiskeys, giving him a unique perspective on the distilling process.    Jared  brings a varied  skill set to FLD; prior to
his tenure as a college professor, he served in the US Army as an airborne
infantryman, as a carpenter, as a subsurface utility engineer,  and as a forensic toxicologist technician.

Jared has a passion for working with his hands, science, and, of course, whiskey! He is excited to be a part of the next chapter in Finger Lakes Distilling's history.
