Sundays at Two

In Conversation with Sutton Lynch

Sunday, October 29, 2023, 2:00 p.m.

Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center

1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike

Join us on Sunday, October 29, as we close out the 2023 Sundays at Two lecture series with Sutton Lynch, the 23-year old photographer from East Hampton who has grown an avid following on Instagram and other media by documenting the resurgence of marine life off the coast of Long Island. Mr. Lynch will present some of his work and talk about his process as well as his connection to the local landscape and how he has seen it change in recent years.

About Sutton Lynch

Born and raised in East Hampton, Mr. Lynch spent his childhood endlessly exploring the woods outside his house and swimming in the ocean. At age 12, he received his first camera as a gift and used it to start photographing everything from garden snakes to the Milky Way. As a teen, Mr. Lynch worked as a lifeguard and carried his camera or GoPro everywhere, often documenting himself and his friends surfing at the local beaches. In 2018, Mr. Lynch bought his first drone, which extended his reach. Just offshore, he found whales and dolphins that he learned were returning to the area in large numbers due to recent changes in environmental policy that had caused a resurgence in their food sources. Today, Mr. Lynch documents his work on Instagram @suttonlynch and his work is often reposted (with his permission) by the East Hampton Star. Mr. Lynch and his work was profiled by the New York Times in September 2023.

Please RSVP by emailing: greenbeltnews@aol.com. All Sunday at Two events are free and open to the public.

Saturday, October 28 Full Hunters Moon Hike. 6:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m.  Co-Sponsored by FLPG and South Fork Natural History Museum (SOFO). The name of this full moon is believed to have originated from the fact that it was a signal for hunters to prepare for the upcoming cold winter by going hunting. Moreover, since fields had recently been cleared out under the Harvest Moon, hunters could easily spot deer and other animals that had come out to search for remaining scraps. Join FLPG and SOFO on this leisurely-paced, 1-hour hike through open-field trails. Meet at the SOFO Museum parking lot, 377 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike, 200 yards north of the RR tracks. Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-745-0689.
