President's Message

Our March General meeting was well attended with over 30 members at the Elks Lodge. Our club should be very happy and thankful that Bob Sloan was elected President, Joan Bozogian as Vice-President, and Deb Spencer as a Board Member at Large. We now have two veteran officers to lead us the next two years starting in May. As always, they can use help from others to plan and run our many activities!

Some of us have just returned from the Chamonix trip led by Bob Sloan and Paulette Lefever.

Travel day out got hectic with traffic delay but the return trip was uneventful. What a beautiful ski area with 6-7 resorts within about a 10 - 40 min bus ride. We enjoyed a very nice hotel, and the sunny weather was a bit warm but good snow at higher altitudes. Wonderful options for sightseeing, shopping, bars and restaurants. It is definitely worth going back to again!

Check the details for the Spring Banquet April 26th.

We hope to see many of you there!

ADDITIONAL INFO

Wear gloves and bring grabbers if you have any

Canal Clean Sweep turns 20 years old this year. That means for 20 years Parks & Trails New York and the New York State Canal Corporation have been organizing the largest three-day Earth Day event in New York State.

For twenty years you and others from across New York State have been helping us remove litter and debris from our waterways and other green spaces. Every year we fill thousands of bags with garbage and set aside tires, strollers, and vacuums for disposal. Since plastic never biodegrades, and instead breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces that are then integrated into ecosystems, you’re helping keep our waterways healthy, and preventing plastic from ending up in our food chain.

Help us uphold this two-decade tradition of taking care of the trails and waterways in New York State by participating in an Earth Day clean up.

Chamonix Trip Re-Cap

by Trip Leader Bob Sloan

Our big trip to Chamonix, France was one to cherish. Forty-nine of us enjoyed 5 out of 6 bluebird days, and a luxurious hotel with good food and a great location. We just had to walk out of our hotels front door to get a ski bus that would deliver us to 7 different ski areas. We found out that skiing in France can be great, but many of us were able to make our skiing experience even better by actually skiing in 3 different countries; France, Switzerland, and Courmayeur, Italy.

Several skiers decided to attempt the challenge of the Vallée Blanche, a 10-mile run from the top of the Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe, down a glacier to the Mer de Glace, “the sea of ice,” with the ice caves. Everyone that took the challenge agreed the trip was spectacular and definitely worth all the effort.

To add to all this, we are pleased that we had no injuries, and an accepted marriage proposal! Congrats to Marissa Rescott and Stewart Scott!

We work hard to make all our ski trips great, but I think most who came on this trip would agree, this trip was something very special!

A special thanks to trip assistant, Paulette LeFever, and to all who made it possible.

Sneak Peak:

FLSC is going to

PARK CITY, Utah next year!

March 7 – 14, 2026

We’ll fly from SYR or ROC to Salt Lake City, then it’s an easy 45 minute bus ride up to fabulous Park City.

We’ll stay at the Park City Peaks Hotel in town, and shuttle to both ski resorts.

Spots for 44 people. Full trip announcement with details, pricing and pass information will be out in June.

Both Ikon Full and Epic Local passes will work for this trip. Park City/Canyons is Epic, and Deer Valley, just down the valley, is Ikon.

TIP: hold off on buying your Epic or Ikon passes right now. More info will be shared soon on how to get the best rates.
