FLY Updates: February 2024

Important Dates!

We have A LOT in store for the year ahead! Attached is a list of important dates throughout the year, including our mission trip dates. Students will get a physical copy of this list when we begin meeting in September. Here's the list of dates: FLY Important Dates.

Looking Ahead: Youth Sunday - Feb. 11

Youth Sunday is a tradition at Faith where our FLY students plan out and lead both worship services on a Sunday. Youth Sunday is happening on February 11! Throughout January and February, FLY will be meeting together to help plan the service, take on leadership roles, practice, and design t-shirts. For those who are interested in participating, we highly recommend that everyone comes to all of the planning and practice sessions. Depending on your student's role, they may need to meet at times outside of this (ex: Seniors giving sermons, musicians).

Theme: During the Winter Retreat, we took some time to look at the passages for Youth Sunday and pull out a theme. This theme will be incorporated throughout our service!

Below are the dates for planning and practices - it is important that all students attend as many of these as possible to help contribute and prepare:

Sunday, February 4 - Youth Sunday Practice during Forum

Wednesday, February 7 - Youth Sunday Practice during FLY

Sunday, February 11 - Youth Sunday - Students need to be at Faith by 8am and will be done after the second service (around 12pm)

**it is really important that students attend both practices for Youth Sunday so then they know what to do!

T-Shirts: Students will receive their t-shirts the Wednesday before Youth Sunday.

Breakfast Potluck: In between services, during the Education Hour, FLY hosts a breakfast potluck. Parents and students are expected to bring items to share - please make sure that the items are nut-free! Food must be in the FLY Room by 9:45am. We are also looking for parents to help set up the FLY Room and clean up afterwards. If you are able to bring something, please fill out this survey to let us know what you are bringing: https://forms.gle/haZhySezqFFaNa6u6. We only have one item coming so far - it's important to let us know what you're planning to bring to make sure we have enough items!

Youth Sunday is an important tradition for this congregation! The people of this church love to hear from our students. If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

Jan. 31 - FLY Night - Child Labor

We'll be talking about child labor in popular products we use. Join us!

Feb. 4 - FLY Forum - Youth Sunday Practice

We're practicing for Youth Sunday! It is important that all students participating in Youth Sunday attend both this practice and the practice on Wednesday.

Meet in the FLY room to then head down to the sanctuary.

Feb. 4 - Youth Gathering Training Meeting - 12:15 to 1:15

We're continuing to prepare! Bring your travel letter and ID! We're only meeting for an hour this time. It's important students come on time so then we end on time.

Feb. 5 - Culver's Fundraiser for the Youth Gathering

From 5 to 8pm, a portion of all orders made at Culver's will be going to our trip to New Orleans! Come and support FLY by going out to dinner. It's at the Culver's in Wheaton (908 E Roosevelt Rd, Wheaton). If you are going on the trip, please sign up for an hour and a half spot - we also need parents to volunteer. Feb. 25 - FLY Forum - Lazarus

We're going to dive into the story of how Lazarus was raised from the dead.

Feb. 25 - Milwaukee Team Meeting - 5 to 6pm

We will be having our first team meeting in Luther Hall! Join us as we get ready for our trip in June!

Feb. 28 - FLY Night - Disappointment

We're going to talk about disappointment and how to handle it during our time together.

March 3 - FLY Forum - Mary & Martha

We'll be thinking about how busy we are in our lives and what that means for our faith.

March 3 - Youth Gathering Team Meeting - 12:15 to 2:15pm
