FLY Updates: October 2023

We are so excited to get back together! Each year students are required to fill out a Medical Release and Registration form - this is needed in order to participate in our trips. Please fill this out as soon as possible! Here's the link to the form: Medical Release and Registration Form.

Important Dates!

We have A LOT in store for the year ahead! Attached is a list of important dates throughout the year, including our mission trip dates. Students will get a physical copy of this list when we begin meeting in September. Here's the list of dates: FLY Important Dates.

Date Change: Sleep Out Saturday (FLY's Service Weekend) to Nov. 11 - 12

Due to some events happening at the church and in our FLY community's life together we will be moving Sleep Out Saturday to Saturday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 12.

FLY’s Sleep Out Saturday will be taking place from November 11 starting at 3:00pm to November 12 ending at 8:30am. As part of this experience, we will be:

- Exploring more what it means to be homeless in DuPage County

- Experiencing a poverty simulation

- Sleeping outside on the front lawn of Faith Lutheran Church

This is an overnight experience and students will be asked to bring whatever they need in order to sleep well over the course of the night, which includes, but is not limited to, a sleeping bag, pillow, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Students are also asked to bring large cardboard boxes if they have them for our activities together.

Summer Trips and Winter Retreat Information!

Interested in going on a trip either this winter or summer? Check out the information for the trips by clicking here.

We never want money to be the reason someone can not go on a trip. Scholarships are available! Please reach out to Kayla if you'd like more information on this.

With that, we do need help with fundraising! If you are able and willing to be on the fundraising team please let Kayla know when you turn in your trip information.

Oct. 1 - Last Year's Mission Trip Forum for Parents and Students

From 9:45 to 10:45, join us in Luther Hall to hear about last year's mission trips from our Confirmation and FLY students! It's a great way to hear about last year's summer mission trip and see what may be in store for the trips this summer! This forum is for adults, Confirmation and FLY students.

Oct. 4 - FLY Night - Should we talk to our friends about our faith?

Join us upstairs as we discuss the question "should we talk to our friends about our faith"!

Oct. 11 - FLY Night with Confirmation - Acolyte Training

On Wednesday during our usual time we are going to learn more about being an acolyte! Acolyting is a way for our students to help lead in worship. We'll play games, learn what you do as an acolyte, and end the night with a challenge you won't want to miss! If you have acolyted before, we need you to help lead and train those who are just learning! Let Kayla know if you can help in this capacity.

Oct. 15 - FLY Forum - Advent Calendar Video Filming

This year our church's advent devotional is going to be an activity calendar! FLY is going to film a video with instructions on making a birthday cake for Jesus. Join us as we film!

Oct. 18 - FLY Night - Gossip

We're talking about gossip! Join us downstairs from 7 to 8:30pm.

Oct. 22 - FLY Forum - David and Bathsheba Discussion

We're discussing the story of David and Bathsheba. Join us upstairs starting at 9:45!

Oct. 25 - FLY Night - Game Night

We're having a game night on October 25! Location TBD.

Oct. 29 - FLY Forum - Help with Sunday School

We'll be serving our church by helping with Sunday School this day! Meet in Luther Hall at 9:45!

Oct. 29 - Trunk or Treat

4 to 5pm on the front lawn (rain plan: meet in Luther Hall)

Trunk or Treat is an event for our families where people come in costumes, trick or treat from cars, play games, eat snacks, and enjoy the fellowship of our church! FLY students are invited to help run stations or to bring their car to participate. If you're interested in helping, let Kayla know! It's a fun way to earn a few NHS hours!!
