Pastoral Search Update
By Sis. Frances Jones

The committee of 12 had its first meeting January 29, 2018, 6 p.m.  There have been a total of 110 additional meetings, basically twice per week. During our search process we also met with Deacons & Trustees, and the By Laws, Human Resources, Finance, Public Relations Committees to fine-tune the process and set all necessary details in proper order.

More than 95 applicants from all over the U.S. applied for the pastoral position. On June 18 we decreased the number of applicants to eight. It was a very detailed and long process.

Interviews were conducted during the month of September either by Skype or in person.  Following the interviews, the number decreased to final the final four, three were invited to FMBC to preach & teach. The first visit took place on Nov 3-4, followed by the second visit on Nov 17-18 and the final candidate will visit, preach and teach at both services on Dec 1-2. The fourth candidate will be an alternate if needed.

Out of respect for the privacy & confidentiality of the visiting candidates we urge members to please do not record video, audio or take photos, use social media platforms during worship services or anytime afterwards.  Instead, fast & pray and take notes for recall when time to vote. Voting will take place Wednesday, December 12 from Noon – 7 p.m. Proper identification required for all FMBC active members to vote on December 12.

Jeremiah 29:13, James 4:8…pray that the pastoral search period will be a time during which the church learns to seek God Himself for more than just a new pastor, but teach us to draw closer to Jesus and trust Him as the Head of the Church. Fast and pray along with the search committee that God’s will be done in His own time.
Healthcare Ministry recognizes dwarfism,
domestic violence and breast cancer awareness month

The FMBC healthcare ministry sponsored informational sessions during the Sunday School hour in recognition of Dwarfism, Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 14, October 21 and October 28. Although their objectives were different, their mission remained the same - improving the quality of life for those diagnosed with dwarfism, breast cancer and victims of domestic violence.

Trustee Bruce Halbert and family shared their experience of raising a child with dwarfism on October 14. Members also learned about domestic violence and resources available to help victims On October 21. Friendshippians learned about breast cancer and risks factors from Wilma D. Baliem, Nurse Practitioner with the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute on October 28.

FMBC member Sis. Pat Lee, a breast cancer survivor shared her story. Lee didn’t have the typical symptoms normally associated with the disease. What she thought was a blister turned out to be much more.

Lee shared her journey from the diagnosis to surgery to chemotherapy and radiation. She credits the doctors and the people she’s met who encouraged her through this process. But most all, she thanks God for sustaining her through this process. “Never Give Up. Always think positive and surround yourself with positive people,” said Lee. “Encourage each other and yourself.”
