We are watching current Covid-19 numbers and policies and are mindful of the need to have a safe retreat - to this end we will of course mask and social distance. Announcements

Mike Ennis is accepting nominations for the annual Ann Nemitz Award, given to a student in the graduating class who emulates Ann’s values and is going into Family Medicine. The spirit of this award emanates from the way Ann Nemitz practiced medicine. Her guiding principle, from which all of her behavior followed, was that it was truly "a privilege to serve" others. Ann was humble, self-forgetting, and compassionate. A staunch patient and student/resident advocate, Ann naturally put others first and approached everyone with kindness and respect. She laughed at herself. She was a passionate activist for family medicine, particularly women's health and family-centered maternity care. Contact Mike at Michael.Ennis@umassmemorial.org.

Frankly Speaking Podcast

A weekly Podcast series covering newsworthy topics in primary care medicine.

Please join us for an overview: The multitude of benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby are well documented. However, we've seen mixed evidence for the relationship between breastfeeding and certain childhood lung conditions, with some studies suggesting an increase in risk. A recent study found that exclusive breastfeeding was associated with decreased lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), asthma, and allergic rhinitis. A potential connection between these conditions, breastfeeding, and the infant's gut microbiome was also found. Join us as we discuss these findings and how to incorporate them into your practice to improve the health of women and infants. Guest: Susan Feeney, DNP, FNP-BC, NP-C, presents: "Breastfeeding Really Is Best-New Evidence for Improved Health in Infants". - Frankly Speaking Ep 275.
