Greetings,
FMCSA has asked that we share this important information with the commercial motor vehicle industry. The option to make online updates with FMCSA, such as filing a biennial update or filing an address change, were taken offline in order to implement multi-factor authentication via the FMCSA Portal, but these online options are now available again, as of January 20, 2025.
Unfortunately, a lot of registrants are submitting paper forms to the FCMSA contact center instead of accessing the online options in the FMCSA portal. This has caused a significant backlog of paper forms and a delay in processing. I need your help to inform your members and FMCSA customers about these options that are back online. Online updates and changes can be made in a matter of minutes in FMCSA Portal, versus waiting over 30 days for a paper form to be processed!
To get started, customers will need a Login.gov e-mail address and USDOT PIN to create an FMCSA Portal account.
We highly encourage you to share this online update functionality with your members. Using the FMCSA Portal allows us to streamline the process for registration updates and avoid delays. This efficient method ensures faster, more convenient service and a quicker resolution to FMCSA registration needs.
What FMCSA Registrants can do online:
Create an FMCSA Portal account to access registration options:
1. Create a Login.gov account.
Use their existing Login.gov account if it is not already associated with an
FMCSA Portal account.
2. To create a Company Official account, they’ll need to retrieve their
USDOT PIN via email in SAFER. PIN #s are now available via Text or
Email.
Use their existing USDOT PIN if they have one. They must have an
active USDOT Number and valid mailing address to retrieve their
USDOT PIN.
3. Register in the FMCSA Portal.
4. Access registration options in the FMCSA Portal.
As always, the Office of Registration is here to help. Customers can use these tools and information to help navigate the FMCSA Portal:
