Update on Honest Servcies Registry Rulemaking

Reminder: The Solicitations of Contributions proposed rule 5J-7.004 and associated forms are now published in the Florida Administrative Registry. This update is because of SB 700, passed by the Legislature in 2025 that says nonprofits must attest that they do not receive contributions, funding, support or services from a foreign source of concern, as listed in Florida Statutes.

Lawsuit Filed to Challenge Special Session on Redistricting

On Thursday, a lawsuit was filed challenging the Governor's authority to call a special session to redraw congressional maps this year. The Governor announced the April special session in early January.

Federal Shutdown Resolved

AT 12:01AM on Saturday, February 1st, the federal government entered a partial federal government shutdown after Congress failed to pass into law the spending bills necessary to keep some federal agencies funded and open.

On Tuesday, the House passed the Senate's legislative package to provide full-year funding for five federal spending bills and to extend temporary funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for another two weeks (expiring on February 13th). That bill was then signed by the President, ending the partial shutdown for now.

Deomcrats have demanded ten changes to how ICE currently operates before they support a full-year spending bill. So far, Republican Congressional leaders have not demonstrated a willingness to accept those changes. If Congress and the White House cannot reach a deal over ICE policy by February 13th, DHS could shut down starting on February 14th, although ICE operations would continue due to supplemental funding enacted in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act last year.

South Arts

Deadline: April 30th

South Arts invests in arts programming in rural or isolated communities in Florida and eight other southern states. Eligible projects must feature a Southern artist and include at least two in-person or live virtual public activities. Funding supports artist fees across disciplines, including film, traditional arts, visual arts, performing arts, and literary arts. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
