As a member of the NEFAC Community, you are in the company of journalists, academics and other fans of the First Amendment and open government. We look forward to seeing you at our events and hearing from you about our programs.

Open Government

Miss One of Our FOI Classes?

NEFAC regularly offers open government classes focused on state public records, open meetings and court access. They feature many of the region's top journalists, media attorneys and other freedom of information experts.

While we encourage you to join a growing community of journalists and community watchdogs for the live lessons, each class is recorded and available to view at your convenience.

“Freedom of information laws are a valuable tool to help you learn about and engage with government. But they vary greatly from state to state,” says Emily Sweeney, a reporter at The Boston Globe and moderator the classes. "These lessons will help you better understand the laws in New England and how they can best be used.”

The New England First Amendment Coalition recently continued its international outreach with a constitutional lesson for Egyptian journalists, content creators and entertainment professionals.

NEFAC President Gregory V. Sullivan met with the delegation on Nov. 7. The coalition has led 10 programs through WorldBoston, focusing on topics such as open government, free speech, misinformation and the growth of non-profit newsrooms.

The coalition also visited Northeastern University this month to speak with journalism students about the presidential election and potential threats to the free press.
