Big Give Training
big give
March and April have been busy months for FOL Board members. Vice President Suzanne Kratz and Treasurer Kathy Balasko were energized, went the extra mile and attended training in San Antonio for the Big Give. They learned all the most up-to-date information which helped make our Big Give fundraiser March 21-28 a resounding success! FOL members and community members contributed on-line and in person at our FOL tables at both the Annex and the Library. This year we raised $6575 for furnishings for the newly expanded library areas, especially teen and children’s furniture. A HUGE THANK YOU to those who donated! We especially appreciate that everyone of our online donors paid the platform and bank fees.

A special “Thank You!” to Susanne Kratz, Kathy Balasko, Linda Quintero, Lacee Sowell, and Bethanie Corder for their creative ideas for banners and posters to publicize our Big Give event. Board members, Clare Helminiak, Suzanne Kratz, Kathy Balasko, Deborah Halsted, and Anne-Marie Kimball staffed our tables for many hours along with FOL members Linda Quintero, Mary Catherine Cole, Marykaye Morgan, Jim and Norma Head. Mary Retchless; Norma Head and Kathie Bowman Estrada contributed snacks.

FOL Board members are actively participating in the planning for the MFPL Grand Opening in late September. It is such an exciting time to participate in this flurry activity! We will need volunteers in many roles for the Grand Opening so stay tuned for opportunities to assist.

BUTTERFLY GARDEN
Comal Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, Girl Scouts, and FOL members are working on the planting plan for the new Butterfly Garden! As soon as we get the OK from the construction team that it is safe for us to be in the garden areas we will begin planting. We want the Butterfly Garden and grounds to be very beautiful for the Grand Opening when the public comes to inspect the new library expansion! As Vita Sackville-West said “The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before.” Our new Butterfly Garden will be amazing!

Please consider being more actively engaged with FOL activities such as serving on a committee, providing food items for events, planting in the garden, or assisting with social media. We need your creativity and assistance! If you would like additional information about volunteer opportunities contact me at folpresident@mfplibrary.org .  Meet some new friends and try something new and FUN!
