During the final two weeks of Florida’s Legislative Committee meetings, the FOMA celebrated Osteopathic Medicine and Health Awareness Day at the Capitol, bringing more than 50 members—including students, residents, and Executive Committee leaders—to meet with lawmakers, tour the Capitol, discuss upcoming legislation, and receive a legislative briefing from Chris Lyon of Lewis Longman and Walker.
The group met in the Senate Chamber with Senate President Ben Albritton (R-Wauchula), incoming Senate President Jim Boyd (R-Hillsborough), and Senator Ed Hooper (R-Pinellas), presented Legislator of the Year awards to Representative Kim Berfield (R-Pinellas) and Senator Stan McClain (R-Ocala), and visited Lt. Governor Jay Collins in the Cabinet meeting room for photos, making for an energizing day filled with white coats and advocacy.
In late-breaking news, the Florida House on December 9, 2025, unveiled a sweeping healthcare package titled “Florida’s New Frontier in Healthcare,” which proposes major reforms to Medicaid, CHIP, and SNAP eligibility; expanded workforce authority; new PBM and prescription drug pricing controls; and three key measures—HB695 on public-records exemptions for EMS and PA licensure compacts, HB693 (the Big Beautiful Healthcare Frontier Act), and HB697 (the PRICE Act). The proposal would also repeal remaining Certificate-of-Need requirements, join multiple interstate licensure compacts, and expand practice authority for advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and dental hygienists. The FOMA team is actively reviewing this broad legislation and preparing for it to be a top priority in the coming session.

FOMA Recognizes Legislative Leaders with Distinguished Awards | |
On Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, osteopathic physicians and students gathered in Tallahassee, FL, for FOMA’s 31st Osteopathic Medicine & Health Awareness Day (OMD). Throughout the event, attendees met with key state leaders—including Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, Senate President Ben Albritton, and Future Senate President Jim Boyd—to discuss the impact of osteopathic medicine in Florida. This opportunity helped strengthen relationships with policymakers and further elevate the osteopathic profession at the FL Capitol.
