As of the close of Week Two of the 2026 Legislative Session, numerous health care–related bills have advanced, covering scope of practice, licensure, medical liability, insurance regulation, patient rights, and vaccine policy. Early committee hearings are shaping debates on complex and often controversial issues, particularly scope of practice, public health, and insurance regulation, with several physician-relevant measures already appearing on agendas.
Legislative leadership is taking a measured approach to health care policy. Governor Ron DeSantis continues to emphasize regulatory oversight and agency accountability, providing context for professional regulation discussions. House Speaker Danny Perez is encouraging early committee review of complex proposals, including legislation on surgical smoke and other measures affecting clinical practice. In the Senate, President Ben Albritton has maintained a deliberate process, with committees considering prescription drug pricing, insurance coverage, and affordability proposals that may affect physician practice and patient access.
Vaccine advertising legislation and nurse scope of practice bills have also moved forward. Scope expansion proposals for APRNs and CRNAs passed committee, following testimony from physician organizations including FOMA and FMA, highlighting patient safety and physician-led care concerns. These early hearings signal leadership priorities and will significantly influence the direction of health care legislation as the session continues.
