Enjoy regular updates and insights from FONA, the U.S. National Arboretum, and our award-winning Washington Youth Garden.

Weekend Wrap-up

We couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to our 2024 Music in the Meadow concert series. Gorgeous weather complemented Rochelle Rice's beautiful music during Friday night's concert. The Ellipse Meadow was filled with hundreds of people enjoying the music and ambience of the Arboretum. Thank you to all who came out and joined us for this concert.

Thank you also to the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and DC Department of Energy and Environment for supporting this event. Their sponsorship made this concert series possible.

Please fill out our short event survey if you attended Music in the Meadow with Rochelle Rice. We want to continue to improve our events and appreciate all the feedback you can provide.

Garden Tips

Just because summer is almost over doesn't mean your vegetable gardening needs to be. There are tons of vegetable and herbs that thrive in cooler weather. Emilia Kawashima, FONA's Garden Co-Manager, offers tips for what to plant now for fall and winter harvest.

School Garden Training

Educators, we want to make it easier for you to get back into your school garden this fall! Join us for our annual Fall into School Gardening event in the Washington Youth Garden this Saturday, September 14th from 11 AM to 12:30 PM.

Attendees can take home free supplies like straw mulch, compost, row cover fabric, cover crop seeds, and seedlings. They can also learn how to plant a fall and winter edible garden and connect with other D.C. educators. While this event is free and open to all educators, some garden supplies are reserved for D.C. schools with a limited capacity and budget for garden programming.

Extended Hours Feedback

We want to hear from you about this year's extended evening hours. This spring and summer, we piloted monthly extended evening hours at the Arboretum that were free and open to all. During these events, the Arboretum stayed open until 8 PM, rather than closing at 5 PM.

We want to continue offering extended hours in 2025, and are applying to funding opportunities to make this possible. Please fill out this short survey to let us know what you thought of this year's extended evening hours.
