Sit Back and Enjoy the View

Have you ever taken a moment to rest on one of the benches beside a trail or under a tree at the Arboretum? Dedicating a commemorative bench is a wonderful way to honor a loved one or a special occasion. These elegant teak benches come with an engraved plaque for your custom message. They will stand tall for years to come, offering visitors a spot to relax and take in the splendor of the Arboretum’s vast green spaces.

Donations of commemorative benches are tax deductible and contribute directly to the U.S. National Arboretum’s crucial horticultural work. Bench locations are available across the Arboretum’s grounds.

Plant Spotlight

Daffodils are one of the many ephemeral harbingers of spring, dotting March landscapes in yellows and whites. Narcissus cantabricus is distinctive for blooming much earlier than its cousins, generally from late January or early February into early spring. Their delicate, ruffled white petals led to their common name, white hoop petticoat daffodil.

Like all daffodils, they grow from bulbs and go dormant after blooming. Narcissus cantabricus are native to the Iberian peninsula, Morocco, and Algeria, but are quite hardy. They are uncommon in American markets, but can be found from rare plant sellers. The Gotelli Conifer Collection is the only collection at the U.S. National Arboretum to host a clump of these lovely little flowers.

Kamala Codrington-White, an Agricultural Science Research Technician at the National Arboretum, shares plants of note at the Arboretum in this recurring segment. Find these plants on your next trip to the Arboretum. Photos by the National Arboretum.
