FOP SERGEANTS PRACTICE TEST UPDATED
An updated copy of the FOP Sergeants' Exam Practice Test has been posted at www.fopno.com.
With the help of FOP member Jean Smith, we learned that six of the question numbers on the original ANSWER KEY were mis-numbered. That problem has been corrected in the updated version (there are no other changes).
If anyone has already printed a copy and wishes to self-correct the problem on the Answer Key pages:
Answer #19 and Answer #20 are reversed and should be renumbered
Answer #30 should be renumbered as answer #33
Answer #31 should be renumbered as answer #30
Answer #32 should be renumbered as answer #31
Answer #33 should be renumbered as answer #32
(we advise downloading multiple copies of the bubble sheet)
With the assistance of Dr. Laura Scaramelia of the University of New Orleans, the Fraternal Order of Police, Crescent City Lodge has also developed a list of Strategies and Helpful Hints for taking a multiple choice examination.
All of the above, as well as additional study information and documents are available to members at our website: www.fopno.com.
Information on website includes FOP Practice Test and bubble answer sheet, Strategies for Conquering a Multiple Choice Test, NOPD Rules and Regulations (chapters and policies), Rules of the New Orleans Civil Service Commission, links to Louisiana Criminal Code (including traffic codes) Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure, Ordinances of the City of New Orleans, and copies of the Civil Service Bulletins with Sergeant Test information and study guides.

QUALIFICATION FOR CORPORAL (MASTER P.O.)
The FOP has received several questions concerning the college requirements for the new Corporal position in the proposed NOPD Pay Plan Initiative.
According to documents provided to the FOP by NOPD administration, the initial qualifcations are:
1. Permanent status as a Police Officer IV with the New Orleans Police Department, or if after January 1, 2018, permanent status as a Senior Police Officer with the New Orleans Police Department.
2. Ten (10) years of experience with the New Orleans Police Department as a Police Officer IV, or if after January 1, 2018, three (3) years of experience with the New Orleans Police Department as a Senior Police Officer
3. In order to be certified for promotion to Master Police Officer, candidates must have obtained at least 15 semester hours of college credits from an accredited college or university on one transcript.
It is our understanding that in the year 2020, the college requirement will be increased to 30 semester hours of college credits.
Members who are otherwise qualified should consider the following:
UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY WILL AWARD UP TO 20 HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT FOR HAVING ATTENDED THE NEW ORLEANS POLICE ACADEMY.
The Fraternal Order of Police, Crescent City Lodge, has a unique relationship with Upper Iowa University - a member of the FOP University System.
Upper Iowa University offers classes at on-site facilities in New Orleans, as well as on-line classes (distance learning).
Upper Iowa University offers a 15% tuition discount to F.O.P. members, their spouses and dependents (up to 26 years old)
Semesters are abbreviated to just 8 weeks for law enforcement officers.
Up to 20 hours of college credit will be awarded to enrolled students for having attended the New Orleans Police Department Academy (depending upon the year attended).
If college requirement is your only impediment to promotion, it may be worth making a phone call to Upper Iowa University Administrator Vicki Melton at (504) 682-6792. Let her know that you are seeking to qualify for an NOPD promotion at some date after January 2018.
