FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DELTA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH TO HOST CHILDREN’S MEASLES VACCINATION CLINIC

Delta, CO (April 8, 2025) – With measles cases continuing to rise in Colorado, Delta County Public Health is urging families to protect their children through vaccination. A case reported on April 7, 2025, was of an unvaccinated Denver County infant under 1 year of age.

Infants under 12 months are especially vulnerable to measles, as they are typically too young to be vaccinated under the routine schedule. However, in some instances, early vaccination is recommended—particularly when families plan international travel for infants over the age of 6 months.

To support families and protect our community, Delta County Public Health is hosting a Kid’s MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccination clinic.

Friday, April 25

8 A.M. – 4 P.M.

Saturday, April 26

10 A.M. – 3 P.M.

Location:

Delta County Public Health

Walk-ins welcome. To make an appointment, call (970) 874-2165.

The MMR vaccination rate for Delta County School District 2023-2024 is 85.8%. This MMR vaccination rate puts Delta County at a potential risk of having a Measles outbreak. Measles can lead to complications, especially in young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

“Measles is highly contagious and can be very serious, but it is preventable,” said Jacqueline Davis, Delta County Public Health Director. “This clinic is an important opportunity for families to ensure their children and community are protected.”

The MMR vaccine is safe, highly effective, and has been around for decades, with two doses providing approximately 97% protection against measles. Vaccination not only safeguards individuals but also helps prevent outbreaks in our broader community.

More information can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website. If you have questions or concerns about your or your children's immunization status, contact your primary care provider.

Coloradans can check their immunization records through the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) Public Portal. Please note that records may be incomplete if all vaccines have not been reported by providers.
