Dallas, TX - Sept. 24, 2018
: Dallas is one of 415 communities around the world conducting simultaneous 40 Days for Life campaigns beginning this Wednesday, September 26, through Sunday, November 4.
40 Days for Life is an intensive campaign that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and grassroots educational outreach.
The Dallas prayer vigil will take place daily (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
outside Planned Parenthood, 7989 West Virginia Dr. in Dallas.
Since 40 Days for Life began, 14,643 mothers have chosen life for their children; 177 abortion workers have quit their jobs; and 96 abortion facilities have gone out of business where 40 Days for Life vigils were previously held. The international campaign now spans 50 countries with 750,000 individual participants, with Dallas being home to one of the largest vigils in the world.
"We know 40 Days for Life has made an impact in Dallas," said Becky Visosky, Executive Director of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee, sponsor of the Dallas campaign. "We've seen the lives saved through prayer, welcomed abortion workers exiting the industry, and celebrated the closure of two facilities where vigils took place. Amidst these miraculous moments, we have also rejoiced in the thousands of people from our community, united peacefully for one cause -- an end to the killing in our city."
KICK OFF RALLY, SEPTEMBER 25, 7:00 PM
Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship,
1808 W Camp Wisdom Rd., Dallas
The 40-day campaign in Dallas will kick off with a rally on September 25 at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, and will feature Shawn Carney, the president and CEO of the 40 Days for Life project. Shawn will tell the story of this groundbreaking effort that started in Bryan, Texas, and continued when the city of Dallas took up the mantle of prayer
.
"People in Dallas have made extraordinary sacrifices to expose the abortion industry and to protect pre-born children and their mothers from abortion," Carney said. "I'm honored to be able to join these folks in prayer. Their efforts illustrate why we're seeing historic changes -- more mothers choosing life, more abortion workers experiencing conversions and leaving the abortion industry, and more abortion centers closing their doors for good."
Carney led the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign outside a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Bryan/College Station, Texas in 2004 and has helped coordinate more than 20 national 40 Days for Life campaigns that have engaged communities coast to coast -- and internationally.
"We are tremendously pleased that Shawn will be here to support our 40 Days for Life effort," said Susan Platt, the Dallas campaign director. "He's an energetic, enthusiastic speaker and we know he will be an inspiration." The evening will also include Aurora Tinajero, host of the radio show Celebrando la Vida, and Chris Wheel, Executive Director of The TurnAround Agenda Family Services at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship.
