PIEDMONT, OKLA. (September 15, 2025) — Piedmont High School has received one of the highest honors from Special Olympics International, officially being recognized as a National Banner Unified Champion School. This designation celebrates Piedmont's outstanding commitment to inclusion, respect, and acceptance for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

This honor places Piedmont High School alongside an elite group of schools nationwide, recognized for fostering a Unified Generation of students who value diversity and inspire positive social change.

“Under the leadership of Piedmont High School’s staff and students, the school has demonstrated its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone belongs,” said a representative from Special Olympics Oklahoma. “Your dedication is helping redefine the future, making communities more welcoming for all.”

The Unified Champion Schools program, supported by Special Olympics, promotes meaningful opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities to learn, play, and lead together. Piedmont High School has embraced this mission by cultivating a culture of acceptance that extends beyond the classroom and into the community.

“We are so proud of the work happening at Piedmont High School,” said Special Olympics International. “This achievement shows how your school community is leading the way in inclusion and setting an example for others across the state and nation.”

As a National Banner Unified Champion School, Piedmont High School will continue leading the way in creating inclusive opportunities that inspire growth, connection, and change. This recognition is valid through 2028.
