JUNEAU, AK (March 10, 2021) – The Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Tlingit & Haida) is pleased to announce the promotion of Royal Hill Jr. to Construction Project Manager for Southeast General Contractors (SGC), the Tribe's new construction company which aims to provide work experience and training opportunities to tribal citizens interested in entering the construction trade.
As the Construction Project Manager, Hill will be responsible for overseeing all construction projects, including in-house renovation, new construction and general maintenance projects for Tlingit & Haida and for-profit public bid projects.
"We’re excited to hire on Royal as our Construction Project Manager," said William Ware, Chief Development Officer. "His experience, contacts and passion for construction is evident in the work he does. He will be a valuable asset to Southeast General Contractors and we look forward to his help in developing the company."
Hill first joined the Tribe back in 2007 under the Employment & Training department and has worked since 2019 for the Tribal Transportation department.
“I accepted this position because I believe that I can help make this company profitable while employing our tribal citizens," Hill said. "There are over 200,000 construction jobs in the United States and it will be our job to make sure we institute training programs to aid and employ our tribal citizens to work in this industry as a career and not just another job. I believe in President Peterson's vision of creating jobs for our tribal citizens and generating revenue to fund new programs and businesses.”
Hill attended Haskell University seeking a degree in Business Administration and received an accounting endorsement through the University of Alaska Southeast. While on his summer breaks from college, he worked as a construction laborer, carpenter, and heavy equipment operator. He has over 20 years of construction experience and has worked on many projects throughout Southeast Alaska, including 20 houses he helped build in Hoonah, Alaska for the Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority.
Hill is the fourth oldest of nine children and is the son of the late Laura Williams (Stevenson) of Hoonah, Alaska and Royal Hill Sr. of Tenakee, Alaska. He is Eagle from the Wolf clan (Kaagwaantaan), married to Jamie Hill and is the father of six children - three boys and three girls.
