Critical Need For New Socks And Underwear Within TUSD
TUCSON, ARIZ. FEB. 3, 2021 - Students in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) are experiencing a critical need for new socks and underwear. Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) is partnering with the TUSD Family Resource Centers to ask the public for donations of new, in-the-package undergarments. Over 36,000 TUSD students live at or below the poverty line making EEF & TUSD’s Family Resource Centers an essential lifeline for students whose families are struggling.

Throughout the month of February, EEF alongside TUSD Family Resource Centers, will be hosting a Socks & Undies Drive to address the needs of students within the school district. All sizes are needed for kindergarten through 12th grade students ranging in age from 5 - 18 years.

Donations can be dropped off at TUSD Family Resource centers throughout February. To ensure safe, contact-free donations, a labeled bin will be placed outside the locations listed below during business hours (Mon. through Fri. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.). Monetary donations will not be accepted at any of the locations and can be made online at www.eefucson.org.

“Many families are dealing with financial challenges and COVID illness and they are reaching out to the Family Resource Centers for assistance. EEF came up with the idea to hold a drive to relieve some of the burden and stress by supplying these basic need items through the regional Family Resource Centers.” says Dawn Bell, EEF’s Executive Director. “Being a parent myself, I know how quickly kids grow out of their clothes, shoes, and underwear. All children deserve to have proper undergarments to feel confident and comfortable. We’re very appreciative of the support from our Tucson community.”

Lisa Gonzales, TUSD Community Outreach Program Coordinator added, “TUSD's Family Resource Centers offer free services to all TUSD students and their families. Our Centers have remained open during the pandemic to serve students and families with a variety of resources. We rely on donations from the community to help restock our shelves and any items received will help TUSD families. Our clothing banks need new socks and underclothing for children in grades K-12. Your generous gifts go directly to our kids!”
