(Austin) High-school freshman Angel Rosas-Berroa from Harmony School of Excellence – Austin was among the best players in the Major League Soccer academies when he competed at the global 2023 Generation Adidas Cup. During a fateful last game against Philadelphia Union, Angel came home with a championship win as a member of the Austin FC Academy's U-15 team.
The Generation Adidas Cup is a premier global youth tournament featuring representation from every MLS academy and renowned club academies worldwide. This year, the international competition had a record 49 clubs from 12 countries and four continents that competed in the U-17 and U-15 tournament play at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, with 80 teams competing.
Harmony Public School of Excellence's soccer team member Rosas-Berroa began playing when he was seven. He eventually joined club soccer at Bavarians United in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Because of his talent, Angel was encouraged to keep pushing himself until an opportunity to move to Austin presented itself.
"When I was 14, I moved to Austin by myself because it was way too difficult for my parents to move my whole family.," explained Rosas-Berroa. "Now, I am with a wonderful host family that looks after me as if I was part of the family. I play for Austin FC and chase my dreams of finally being able to play for an academy and go further."
How did it feel to hoist the U-15 winning cup?
"It felt amazing winning this tournament. I've always dreamed about it, and playing in this tournament with this amazing team was an honor," said Rosas-Berroa. "We had a common goal and worked together to achieve what many thought was impossible."
