Hello Salmon Bay Families!
|
Happy Friday all! I was volunteering in my daughter's class this afternoon, and got to partake in a Salmon Bay fire drill for the first time! It's pretty amazing to see the teachers and staff of our school work together in such in such a big way. The kids all gathered on the upper field, and even though it was a non-scary event, I was so impressed with how well all the kids paid attention to their teachers and took the drill seriously. It was another reminder that our kids are in such good hands, and that the teachers and staff are always taking safety seriously.
If you were at Friday Sing this morning, you probably heard a favorite song. There were definitely fan-favorites on the set list this morning! My kids made me write down all the songs, so if you're curious, we sang:
Yellow Submarine
Soon May the Wellerman Come
The Cat Came Back
Mouse & Tailor
This Pretty Planet
Mrs. Murphy's Chowder
Banana Slug
Count on Me
Have a wonderful weekend, full of favorite songs and activities!

Save the Date: Multicultural Celebration & Potluck
Wednesday, April 17th, 6:00 - 8:00 PM
SAVE THE DATE! The FOSB Building Community Initiative (BCI) invites the entire Salmon Bay Community to a Multicultural Celebration & Potluck. This event aspires to bring our community together to share and celebrate our diverse cultures, heritages, and whole selves through food, music, hands-on activities (arts, crafts & games), and live performances. Families can participate by simply attending or volunteering to share something that feels meaningful to you and your cultural identification.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We're currently in the planning stages, and looking for several go-getters to join small teams that organize the communities' contributions to the potluck, hands-on-activities, and performances. Please consider volunteering as a coordinator by clicking here to learn more and sign up! We are hopeful that coordinators can begin working with BCI leaders to plan and secure participation in February, with the bulk of organizing occurring a few weeks prior to the event - no more than a couple hours per week.

The following dates, activities & announcements pertain to the school and come from information provided by school staff/teachers/admin. We are pleased to include them as reminders to our community, but this may not be an exhaustive list of everything the school has planned. Please check with your student’s teacher(s) or office staff for more information.
Important Updates from Principal Dixon:
• We would like to remind our students about being a part of community, following rules and helping each other, especially in the lunch room. Please kindly remind your kids about being respectful to others, cleaning up after themselves and following adult guidance during lunch.
• Arrival time is between 8:30 and 8:50, recently we have had student’s in the building before teachers arrive, please do not drop your student off before 8:30 a.m., middle school students go to the lunch room, upper field or library starting at 8:30 and elementary students are on the playground starting at 8:30 a.m., thank you for your cooperation and support.
• We kindly ask that parents emailing anything related to attendance to use attendance inbox instead of office staffs’ individual email addresses at salmonbay.attendance@seattleschools.org
• Parents, please remind your students that if they do not feel well that they should go to the office so the nurse can assess them and then follow up with you (parents, guardians). Students should have their phones away for the day and should not be calling or texting you in class. Our expectation is that if they need to contact you, they do so in the office, we greatly appreciate your support with this.
