Hello Salmon Bay Families! | |
|
Reading is a core component of our children's education. It is also an integral way for us to understand the world around us. Through books we are able to connect with characters who become friends, and we are able to become the heroes and the heroines of fantastic adventures. And, perhaps more importantly, we are able to see the world from the perspectives of our friends and neighbors who experience the world differently. A good book allows us to experience and value stories, and to challenge narratives that we have taken for granted all our lives. Books that we read in childhood especially, have a way of sitting in our minds and becoming a part of our life-long perspective.
As we begin Black History Month, I’d like to pass along these book recommendations that our wonderful librarian, Corinna, put together for students and families.

Save the Date: Multicultural Celebration & Potluck
Wednesday, April 17th, 6:00 - 8:00 PM
SAVE THE DATE! The FOSB Building Community Initiative (BCI) invites the entire Salmon Bay Community to a Multicultural Celebration & Potluck. This event aspires to bring our community together to share and celebrate our diverse cultures, heritages, and whole selves through food, music, hands-on activities (arts, crafts & games), and live performances. Families can participate by simply attending or volunteering to share something that feels meaningful to you and your cultural identification.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We're currently in the planning stages, and looking for several go-getters to join small teams that organize the communities' contributions to the potluck, hands-on-activities, and performances. Please consider volunteering as a coordinator by clicking here to learn more and sign up! We are hopeful that coordinators can begin working with BCI leaders to plan and secure participation in February, with the bulk of organizing occurring a few weeks prior to the event - no more than a couple hours per week.
Questions? Want to help? Contact Chase Treisman (phone: (480) 787-6531 or chasetreisman@gmail.com)

News from Principal Dixon:
Middle School Families, please ensure that you have made your payments for the upcoming SEP programs. You can do full or partial payments (if you’re requesting partial scholarship) through School Pay. If you are requesting any scholarship please contact school counsellor Rob to arrange for it. You can reach him at rabright@seattleschools.org. If you have any problems with payments, please reach out to our volunteer coordinator Elif at elgumrukmokr@seattleschools.org
We kindly ask that parents emailing anything related to attendance to use
attendance inbox instead of office staffs’ individual email addresses at
salmonbay.attendance@seattleschools.org
If you have any trips or family events planned during school time for 3 or more days, we kindly ask that you fill out a planned absence form that you can pick up from the office.
Parents, please remind your students that if they do not feel well that they should go to the office so the nurse can assess them and then follow up with you (parents, guardians). Students should have their phones away for the day and should not be calling or texting you in class. Our expectation is that if they need to contact you, they do so in the office, we greatly appreciate your support with this.

SPARTS Summer Camps
SPARTS is a unique blend of sports, arts, and science, providing a dynamic and enriching experience for elementary school students. We believe in fostering a holistic approach to education and recreation, and our camp is designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and physical activity. Our program is designed to keep children active and stimulated while providing a safe and nurturing environment. We designed each session to complement the educational values of our schools and can help students maintain and enhance their academic achievements over the summer. In past years we have offered this exclusively to Adams students, but this year we wanted to extend the invitation to include students from our broader community.
SPARTS camp runs for 3 weeks in July. Our program is solely staffed with Seattle Public School educators who are passionate about working with children. In our commitment to making SPARTS accessible to all families, we are pleased to offer scholarships for those in need. Our goal is to create an inclusive and diverse community where every child can thrive.
We understand the importance of effective communication with parents, and we hope that you can include information about SPARTS in your newsletter and/or any other forms of parent communication that you find suitable. More details can be found on 6crickets, where parents can access registration information and learn more about the exciting activities we have planned.
