Dear Friends,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we continue to build both membership and funds to meet our goals, I am reminded of the above quote by Jim Stovall, winner of the International Humanitarian of the Year Award (2000). Friends of St. Philip’s is an organization of men and women committed to supporting St. Philip’s School and Community Center through service and fundraising.
With that goal in mind, we are constantly seeking to grow our vibrant base with new members offering opportunities to contribute in multiple ways. If you have not renewed your past membership, please do so now here. Memberships begin at $50. If you know someone in the community who would be a positive addition, please forward this newsletter and encourage them to join our efforts to champion those who make St. Philip’s the special place it is for so many every day.

General Membership Meeting |
Friends of St. Philip’s held its annual General Membership Meeting on March 30 at the home of Emily and Todd Massey. Dr. Terry Flowers, Perot Family Headmaster, and Julie Saqueton, Chief Community Advancement Officer, shared information about the past, present, and future of community development in the area surrounding St. Philip’s. Additionally, John Sizemore, a local artisan and entrepreneur, outlined his vision for transforming a former liquor store on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. where he will open Long Hope Wood Shop, a workshop and retail space for wood artisans in South Dallas. It was an informative and inspiring meeting as we learned about all the wonderful things going on in and around St. Philip’s and the neighborhood it calls home. |

On April 29, FOSP hosted a Family Night for all St. Philip’s employees and their families to kick off Appreciation Week. All employees and their families were invited, dinner was provided by Llegacy Catering. DJ Billy Freeman, an SPSCC alum, played festive music and everyone enjoyed multiple games of Bingo for prizes that included cash, Apple AirPods Pro, and a 55” smart TV. |

Meet the St. Philip’s Finance Team -- Neal Choate, Chief Financial Officer, and Kawana Moore, Sr. Account Manager. Both are relatively new to St. Philip’s, having served for a year and have already made a mighty impact ensuring financial forethought and stewardship of the organization’s growing resources.
Neal, a CPA, hailing from New Mexico, has been in the finance industry for ten years and enjoys tennis and golf in his spare time. Kawana, a native of Alabama, holds an MS in Accounting from Colorado State University.

On Saturday morning May 7th, more than 75 children and teenagers came to the St. Philip's School and Community Center. Each shopped for gift items, created original cards for mothers and grandmothers, received a small flowering plant for each mom, and had their items placed in colorful gift bags.
The mothers enjoyed hand and neck massages while the children were shopping and creating. Thank you to FOSP members Cathy Anwyl, Susan Fisk, McKay Heim, and Kathy Pershern for their contributions and time in making this year’s store a success.

ISAS Accreditation March 2023 |
|
Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) administers an accreditation for its member schools to verify ongoing qualifications every ten years. FOSP will help in multiple ways as St. Philip’s embarks on its fourth accreditation; from picking up members of the ISAS team at the airport, having a reception at St. Philip’s on Sunday, March 26, providing meals, and hotel rooms. Please let us know if you would like to help with transportation, know of a restaurant willing to donate meals or a nearby hotel willing to provide multiple rooms. Please contact Tina Stansbury with any information that could help. |
