FOSP MEMBER NEWS | September 2022

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart."

- Elizabeth Jarrett Andrew

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Fall newsletter! I am thrilled about the cooler weather coming (hopefully), and the activities Friends of St. Philip’s has on the calendar for the 2022-2023 school year. We love and NEED your help!

There are so many opportunities to get involved with FOSP starting with our second annual Bingo, BBQ and the Blues fundraiser on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, and the yearly Christmas celebration for the faculty and staff. We have an “all hands on deck” volunteer need in late March 2023 when FOSP hosts the visiting committee with the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) during its once-a-decade Accreditation Visit. In May 2023, we help St. Philip’s put a bow on the school year with an End of the Year Celebration for everyone.

Keep reading for details below on some of these events, with more information on others to follow. Please join us to show all the employees of St. Philip’s School and Community Center the support and appreciation they deserve. Memberships start at $50, and any time you can give us will not be wasted.

Warmly,

Tina Stansbury

President Friends of St. Philip’s

Bingo, BBQ & the Blues

It’s back! Bingo, BBQ and the Blues fundraiser on Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Friends of St. Philip’s will host our second annual fundraising event, Bingo, BBQ, and the Blues benefiting St. Philip’s School and Community Center. Please join us for an evening of Bingo featuring special guest callers, BBQ, and Blues entertainment. We are excited to announce our Honorary Chair, City of Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. Chris Arnold, Voice of the Mavs, returns as emcee for the evening Sponsor tables are available here, and individual tickets may be available at a later date. Your generous support provides vital funding to further the mission of St. Philip’s School and Community Center and ensures the quality and quantity of the programs we offer to our students and community.

We are hopeful that you are able to volunteer even a few hours of your time on the day of the event. Below are the specific needs:

  • 20 volunteers needed for set-up (10am – 4pm). Please join us as your time allows during this time frame. Place tables, chairs, tablecloths, centerpieces and other items for the evening. Lunch provided.
  • 6 volunteers needed for check-in table. (5pm – 7pm) Help guests check-in, enter information into iPad and distribute table numbers and other printed materials.
  • 20 volunteers needed for clean-up (9:30pm – 10:30pm) Help breakdown and stack tables and chairs so the students can use the gym the following morning.

If you can help, please email Tina Stansbury.

ISAS Accreditation March 2023

As mentioned above, the ISAS Accreditation Visit is set for late March 2023. The visit is essential to the ISAS accreditation process every 10 years to validate the ongoing qualifications of its member schools. There are multiple ways FOSP plans to support St. Philip’s as it embarks on its fourth accreditation. Among them: airport pick-up of ISAS team members, volunteers for the campus reception on Sunday, March 26, 2023, meals and hotel room donations. Please contact us if you would like to help with transportation or have donation ideas for restaurant meals or a nearby hotel willing to provide multiple rooms.

Back to School Luncheon

Principal Kellee Murrell before the ribbon cutting of the “Saintuary”.

FOSP hosted a campus-wide lunch on August 10, 2022, as part of a ribbon-cutting celebration for the new “Saintuary", a combination workroom and quiet space. The space features a kitchenette, and two private rooms, making it the perfect place for sharing a meal or a moment of solitude. A la Carte Catering was contracted to provide the box lunch and cupcakes for dessert. Staff and faculty enjoyed a time of fellowship as they celebrated the renovated space.

We Need YOU!

Forest District Fall Community Cleanup

On Saturday, October 15th, 2022 at 8am, we will meet at SPSCC for our fall community cleanup. Members of the community are joining forces to beautify our campus and the surrounding neighborhoods. There is POWER in numbers! All are welcome to join us in a volunteer role so please share with your family, friends, neighbors, organizations and churches. Come ready to serve! Learn more and register here.

Aunt Bette's Community Pantry

We need volunteers to pick up surplus meals at Snap Kitchen at Mockingbird and Skillman on Thursdays and Fridays. Meals will be delivered to Cornerstone church, since our Pantry is not serving neighbors on these days. Please contact Dee Velvin if you are interested in taking a regular shift, or being a substitute.
