So much going on...and so much more to come.....

While you were hopefully enjoying some well-deserved vacation time, we have been busy behind the scenes working on migrating to a new website, establishing a fresh newsletter format and meeting registration systems.

Some other changes that we have initiated this year are the Regional Study Groups, Happy Hours and NexGen events.  We are actively seeking ways to get more of our members and partners engaged.  Watch for announcements about regional events in your area.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the at the upcoming Fall Retreat, September 16th, to be held at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center in Blue Bell.  It will be followed by an afternoon of optional activities including golf, tennis or lessons to hone your golf or tennis skills at Blue Bell Country Club.

Education Update
Peter Gutekunst
Education Chair

Thank you for joining us at the Spring Symposium and making it another successful event! We heard from some great speakers and ended with an inspiring message from Barbara Shaiman, author of Living Your Legacy Now. A special thanks to our Platinum sponsor Wiggin and Dana LLP, who delivered a fun and informative Jeopardy game show style presentation on a topic that isn't always included in a sentence including the word 'fun'.

We had another great event at The Barnes on June 25th with a presentation from Michael Kitces and our Gold Sponsor, Walton International Group. A cocktail Reception followed and there was also plenty of time to tour the gallery. Click here to view photos of the event.

Mark your calendars and hold the date of September 16 for the Fall Retreat to be held at a new location, Normandy Farm Hotel & Conference Center and Golf at Blue Bell Country Club. Our keynote speaker will be Matt Oechsli of the Oechsli Institute who is well known for his 'Becoming a Rainmaker' series. Special thanks to Gold Sponsor Schroders who will be presenting on Investing in Global Equities along with the return of 'Ethics Man', Joel Weiner.  Click here to read all about it and to register.

We'll end the year on November 12th in King of Prussia with our last quarterly meeting thanks to Gold Sponsor ACE Private Risk Services.

Hope to see you there.

Marketing/Media Relations Update

Steve Krzywicki
Marketing/Media Relations Chair
Our chapter's media response team has now grown to over 35 members.  The media response team's role is to respond to request for quotes from members of the national media, to provide insight to FPA's consumer oriented articles, and to be an author of content for the FPA's plannersearch.org website and the FPA blog.

We have had a number chapter members quoted in local and national publications recently as content experts in their particular field.

Our next step is to reach out to our local media and develop those same connections and use the members of our chapter as expert resources on financial planning topics.  We feel this is a great way to promote our chapter and the financial planning profession as a whole.

If you would like to be involved in the media response team, a writer or a source for an article, please let me know and I walk you through the next steps.

Advocacy Day in D.C.
Advocacy Day in D.C.

Our Chapter was well represented at the First Annual FPA Advocacy Day in Washington, DC on June 24th.  In attendance were Scott Kaminsky, Steve Krzywicki, Sameer Somal, Cathy Seeber and Kevin Coughlin on behalf of the Chapter.  We had a jam-packed day, meeting with six different offices of Senators and Representatives from our local area.

JUST IN.........

We have some excellent news to report.  As a result of our visit to D.C. on June 24th, Rep. Maxine Waters has called for a hearing in a letter to House Financial Services Chair, Jeb Hensarling on the user fee bill HR1627.  In addition, this investor protection bill picked up 12 new co-sponsors on July 11th.  We visited with many of those offices as a group. We encourage all of you to get involved and let your local Reps know we need their support on the issue.

Pro Bono Update
Dave Hoyer
Pro Bono Chair

This spring has been an exciting time for our Pro Bono Group as we now have two relationships with new community partners, also commonly referred to as community based organizations (CBOs). They are the VA (Veterans Administration) center in Coatesville and Women Against Abuse in Philadelphia.

On April 29th Erik Evans, Eric Daugherty and I presented a workshop on Debt Management to a group of 35 veterans who live at the Coatesville VA Center. Our two Erik(c)s did role playing exercises and I presented the workshop. The reception was good from many in attendance and future workshops at the Center are planned. This is our first attempt to serve our veterans who have sacrificed so much and we will look for other opportunities to do so. From contact with vets we are learning that many of them are struggling with physical, emotional and financial problems that make reentry into their communities and regular civilian life difficult. I will be seeking volunteers to present future workshops and for one-on-one counseling to this group as future events are planned.  Read more....

Board Member and NexGen  Committee Co-Chair Rachel Fieweger is a great shot!
NexGen Summer Picnic & Trap Shooting

On July 30th the Chapter's NexGen Committee hosted a Trap Shooting event at the Delaware County Sportsmen's Association (DCSA), sponsored by Lincoln Mortgage Company and Structured Asset Management. The afternoon began with a firearms safety course and demonstration. Afterwards, each attendee took a few practice shots to become accustomed to the recoil of a 12 gauge shotgun. Then everyone participated in two rounds of trap shooting, in which clay birds were ejected from a "house" or machine in front of the shooter. Over barbeque afterwards, NexGen'ers networked with the Board and other FPA members. A special thanks to Rudy, Mike and Dennis of the DCSA for the use of their facility, their pointers, and especially their patience. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to participate in this unique sport!
