Hello FPA Members! Tuesday, March 6 marks our fifth annual Advocacy Day in Sacramento! We invite you to join your fellow FPA members from around the state for a day on the "Hill,"
sponsored by FPA of California.
This is your opportunity to meet with your elected representatives to discuss what is most important to you in your profession, and create long-standing relationships that matter.
Advocacy Day is our largest and most attended advocacy event of the year. Participation from FPA members has more than doubled in recent years from 14 in 2014 to 32 members in 2017, and we anticipate even more attendance this year. As a coalition, we continue to build lasting relationships at all levels of government including members from the office of the Department of Business Oversite, Insurance Commissioner, State Treasurer and State Controller.

Why should you get involved in advocacy?
Like anything else in your life or business, RELATIONSHIPS matter, and these meetings build strong partnerships with elected officials and their staff. When issues arise (as they have and will continue), we are more effective in influencing the outcome when we already have those relationships in place.
March 5:
If you are in Sacramento on Monday night, FPA of California is hosting a dinner for all Advocacy Day participants. Also, we have a block of rooms at a discounted rate at the Embassy Suites - available on a first come, first served basis for members who need to arrive Monday night to be ready for Tuesday morning. To book your hotel, please use one of the methods below. Please note that the deadline to register is Sunday, February 11, 2018.
March 6:
We meet up at the Embassy Suites near the Capitol and Riverwalk for a hosted breakfast and orientation. Then we head to the Capitol to visit with our State Senators and/or Assembly Members.
Are you new to Advocacy?
Not to worry, we usually send 2 to 3 members to each legislator office to meet in a tag team approach. You will have a team to support you.
As part of your preparation for the day, we will provide you with
a recorded webinar training that includes talking points and materials.
We offer FINANCIAL SUPPORT. The FPA of California is committed to helping our members engage in Advocacy Day on behalf of the Financial Planning Association. While we are asking you to take a day off work and volunteer your time, we are pleased to be able to defer some of the travel and hotel costs
(available to the first 50 members who register to join us in Sacramento.)
To help us secure an appointment with your representative, REGISTER before the February 26 deadline. We need to know your representatives and contact person when you register. To find out who they are,
here
is a link to find your California elected official based on your district of residence (once on their website, click on the Contact Us tab). We will need several weeks to arrange and coordinate all meetings for all attendees.

Mark your calendar now to participate in a fun and exciting day in support of our profession. We look forward to another successful Advocacy Day! Sincerely,
Lynda Reynoso
