Best Wishes for Angie Pryer on New Endeavors
|
This spring, our pianist, Angie Pryer, took a job that leads her in new directions. She is also excited to continue music lessons through her studio. So, after twelve years of accompanying our choir and leading worship, she tendered her resignation, effective May 22nd.

If you would like a tour of the building and want to see the section of the church that is going to be renovated join us on June 19 or July 10 after worship.
|
|
We are excited to have engineers in the building in the past two weeks. Our project is picking up steam! Our Renovation Team looks forward to sharing updated floor plans and drawings with the congregation soon.
We will have special opportunities over the summer for members to tour the building as it is and discuss the changes we anticipate.
Our New Season: Building Community Update
On a related note, our congregation's response to our capital campaign has been fabulously faithful! At five months into our 36 month campaign, we have already reached 44% of our goal. Thank you for your generosity! If you would like to pledge or contribute, our Reach Team members would be happy to speak with you. They are Linda Johnson, David & Margie Palmatier, and Steve Wright.

Iglesia Presbiteriana-Reformada en Sancti Spiritus Celebrates 120 Years of Ministry
|
“We thank God for accompanying us this far and for the cloud of witnesses that made the Presbyterian work to remain in the city of Santi Spiritus. May our God continue to bless the way forward.”
|
|
The Evangelism and Communication Committee is seeking church members who are willing to share their story about what led them to become a member of First Presbyterian Church and how that membership provides meaning/purpose for their faith journey. The EC Committee believes our church members’ experiences are the best source of information for those seeking a new faith home. We are seeking volunteers to share their story in a 1-2-minute video clip recorded by Chris Young that will be shared on our church website. To schedule your recording, please email Chris Young directly to arrange a time.
|
|
Our church will continue to serve an evening meal, once a month, at the SOS homeless shelter. Each team member will provide one of the items, then meet at the shelter and serve the meal to shelter clients. If you would like to help with this, please contact Barb Olson or Chaplain Tim Haworth.

The Liturgical Arts Festival of Springfield
May 6-15, 2022
|
The Liturgical Arts Festival is an Interfaith Celebration of the Arts. What are "liturgical arts"? Liturgical arts are cultural expressions of creativity, beauty, and community life: music, dance, drama, poetry, architecture, and visual art. LAFS is inspired by the beautiful diversity of faith traditions within our own community.
Friday, May 13th 6:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church
In the Blink of an Eye: Celebrating Life’s Journey. This is a theatrical presentation of spoken word and music presented by Leigh Steiner and Phil Funkenbusch.

Fair Hills Illinois Presbyterian Home Update & Invitation
|
In May 1954, the first resident was welcomed to the Illinois Presbyterian Home, Fair Hills Residence. Did you know this ministry was founded by First Presbyterian Church with the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Paul Graebel?
The next decades brought additions and updates to the original building as residents came to call us home and to better meet their needs.
In May 2021 we hosted a Ground Blessing to launch our Building on History construction of Fair Hills Tower Apartments and Fair Hills Cottages, both offering independent living for seniors. We are so grateful for the generosity of individuals and churches for their continued and needed support of service to seniors today and throughout the years!
Please join us at IPH Communities, 2101 W. Lawrence, on May 12, 2022 for a noon Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber of Commerce. We are celebrating the progress in our Mission and Vision. We have new residents in all 16 Cottages, and all but two of the new 11 unit apartment building reserved for move-ins later this summer.
We welcome you to contact Amy Rasing, Director of Development, to learn more about the ways you can support our Mission and schedule a tour of either assisted or independent living, call 217-546-5622 x 1004.

Looking for Summer Sanctuary Tour Volunteers
|
-
VOLUNTEER Opportunity: Greetings from the Evangelism and Communication (EC) Committee. As our church begins to transition itself to a “new normal” following the COVID pandemic, the committee would like to resume Sanctuary Tours this summer. In the past these tours took place 2-3 days per week from 11 AM – 2PM during the months of June through August. Two volunteers are needed each day to serve as docents. Might you be interested?
-
Are you thinking what the heck is a docent? According to the Oxford Dictionary a docent is a person who acts as a guide, typically on a voluntary basis, in a museum, art gallery, or zoo. Or, in this case, a church!
-
Is your next thought? This sounds fun! But, you are hesitant because you have never been a docent or led tours before. NO worries! We will have your back by providing training sessions along with all the materials you need to ensure you are well prepared while still having fun telling our church’s story.
-
Are you thinking? Hey, I was a docent in the past and sure do miss this ministry! NO worries! Welcome back! We need your knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and joyful spirit as we begin this important ministry.
-
So, what is next: If this invitation has tapped your interest and you want to find out more about how you can join the docent team, email Michelle Hastings at michelle@lincolnschurch.org. We will be in touch to answer any questions and discuss training opportunities and possible schedules.
Warmly,
Evangelism and Communication Committee
